I picked this machine up recently...suction is great! When it runs, it has a loud grinding/whining noise.

So I did open it up to look at the motor. I can't tell anything from looking at it. It is very well sealed up. I can't even see where the carbon brushes would fit.

My question is: Is it more likely to be worn bearings or wearing brushes that would cause the noise?

I'm not interested in replacing the motor at the costs that I see on Ebay.

Thanks for anyones input...

Guy

So they put three different Motors in there if you can't see the carbon brushes and it's a cream color you most likely have a vortex motor. Usually pulling the fan out of that and cleaning that up will put the bearings Back in Balance. If the machine has a lot of dust in it the motor might have gone bad

This videos unreleased on my channel hope this helps.

Super video!

It is indeed a Vortex motor. How do you take apart the motor to clean the fan and or check the brushes?

Do you have any suitable replacement motors in your "bone yard"?

The Vortex Motors, delicate to take apart but definitely not impossible. Personally I use rubber mallet to tap the fan housing off. It's a reverse thread on the nut that holds the fan on and then you have access to everything I wouldn't bother checking the carbon brushes I have yet to see one that needs replacement. When it comes to Motors I always go new of course I'm in a position at work getting a new motor is relatively easy I have them on the Shelf.
