Wondering if anyone has heard of these vacuums and if so, what do you think? Are they decent? The specs sound good on them, but they are definitely not well known.
VERY well made machines and yet somewhat underestimated. they mind me of a basic royal tank. They can be used either commercially or in household environments. Durable and quiet they do not lack in power and if I am not mistaken they aren't bad at filtration either.
And I am VERY pleased with it! Mine has a two speed motor which is a little on the loud side, especially on high, but is EXTREMELY powerful, and it does seem to filter well. My only issue I have with it, the power cord doesn't want to stay put when plugged into the port, otherwise, a great machine.
Maybe I will get one then, I've heard the cord does not retract in to the machine like other canisters. Here is a link to the one I was thinking of getting. Is the hose standard on these or do you need some kind of adapter in order to use standard attachments? I'm assuming these are bagged units, don't want anything bagless.
Hi Mike:
I have that exact model Metropolitan in the collection. If you're interested, I'll sell it to you CHEAP. Like $100 cheap. It's been used a handful of times, and is virtually new.
I'm interested in your offer, do you think it's a good vacuum? Is it the full sized or compact canister, and does it have the power nozzle? Actually wondering which power head they are using as well as which suction motor it has, and is the hose a standard size?
Hose is standard size, inch and a quarter. The power nozzle has a steel brush roller and resembles a Eureka Express nozzle. It's the full sized canister and it uses a GS double fan motor.
I've always liked those Metro vacs... very retro looking and the chrome canister is really sharp. Too bad they don't have more of a presence in stores, made in America and all. I have a small metro commercial Vac'n Blo (hold the giggles) with the shoulder strap and a carry handle. Its great for vacuuming the car or drying it and the bike with the hose on the other end. The only time I've seen them for sale in a store was at the Hudson Bay flagship store downtown Toronto about 10 years ago and they were clearing out the few they had.
That really does look like a Royal minus the plastic tool holder most of them have. I have a couple of their vacuums and really like how well they clean. If these are close to the same power and quality and made in the USA that is a great machine and maybe the price is inline for what you get new.
I'll have to add it to my list of searches on Craig's list of things I might want.
Would be even better if the hoses would work with the Royals. If you get a new or used one from Dysonman I'd be interested in what you think of it.
My latest one is a 4650 Stark/Royal and the variable speed is very handy and the power head really grooms and cleans my carpet.
If anyone is interested, I vacuumed the house tonight with my Metropolitan since it was close by. I decided to make a short demo video of it starting up, running the power nozzle, and switching between speeds. It's a really nice vacuum, and the motor is so powerful, when running on high, it rolls itself along on the hardwood floors!!!
