Just wondering if anyone here can help me identify a vac from my childhood. I'm pretty sure it's a Hoover, from the research I've done I believe it to be a Junior form the '50s. Our neighbor across the street had it and used it constantly, OCD for cleaning.

Anyway what I remember was that it had a white body with a blue bag off to the side and a red ball in the back for an on/off switch, red, white and blue in a way. From the description, was it a Hoover? If not what? Love to see a picture of the model if there are any out there.

Junior Identity.

Hi.

The junior you are speaking of sounds very much like a model 14. This had the bag on the side, and the red on off switch on the rear.

The UK equivalent was the 1224. I am sure that someone out in vacuumland has a decent picture of the model 14.

Hope this helps.

Clark.

Clark is correct

That sounds like the model 14 Lark, introduced in 1956. Its colors were sandalwood and light blue with red accents.
I'll see about posting a pic of mine later today

Hoover Junior UK 1224.....

Heres the UK equivalent, Hoover Junior 1224, lovely little runner, these where our standard sized vacs here due to small houses and where very popular, came complete with tools as well!!! I love those banana skin bags when they are inflated!!!

Here it is with its earlier sister the UK model 119

Hmmm.

Thanks for the pictures!

That could be it, but I swear I recall the red on/off switch as being round like a wooden ball. For some reason that sticks out clearly in my mind.

Is there anything other than the Hoover that might have had a similar design?

blue junior

lovely machine i also like the senior of that ilk and colour scheme, i think it would have been out with that junior at the same time, befor the 652 still taking the hose in a side port, but with the modern blue tool kit like that one, remind me of the model no someone!

YEAH!

Great! That's it! Thanks!

The neighbor across the street was a dear family friend, but she was OCD on cleaning. She would work her way through the house and tear down each room, and completely clean it, then move to the next. And 2 weeks later she would do it all again. If It was Wednesday the frig was emptied and scrubbed. And she managed to do this while working full time and caring for a husband and two kids.

I can remember summers with the windows open hearing the vacuum running all afternoon.
