Favorite Convertible?!?!
It's a very nice looking Convertible that orange one. My Convertible knowledge is NO WHERE near to that of my canister vacs. My interest is the sound of a 4.3 Amp motored model. Many of those hoods, as seen on that Kmart model come with a 4.8Amp HP motor. While I like the sound of the 4.8, 5.0 and 6Amp motors, it's SIGNIFICANTLY different from the 4.3Amp. The 4.3Amp motors I've heard also sound different from the typical 420 Watt Convertible models as found in a 1070, 69 or other earlier models. The 4.3 brings back childhood memories in my head of the 1st VACUUM I EVER USED!!!
In trying to find a 4.3Amp motored model, I am design and color fussy! There won't be pinks, purples, teals, ultra light colors, completely white, flower patterns or other off the wall things in my collection!!! Even that tan/ cream colored Decade 80 that I previously owned, had to go!! The all white cloth bag equipped Hoover Elite from early 90's nor all white JC Penney model would never be in my house!!! I like darker, brilliant colors: Deep Navy blue, Forest Green, Red. some oranges, some yellows. I like my Cinnamon Hoover Celebrity because it is a childhood vac that sounds cool!!! If it was a Deep Navy blue, that would be AWESOME!!! Wish my Celebrity IV Elite had the same shade of deep blue that's on the metal base, all over the machine!! The lighter sky colored teals don't appeal to me as much. Now a dark red Hoover Guardsman canister looks cool-- like a Hot Rod sort of color.
Additionally I'm much more privey to the headlight equipped models, and round all metal handle with the flip switch. I like the sound of the flip switch, and find the all metal round handle, more comfortable than the rubber end cap grip. The hood on the headlight models above is good, along with Ranger hood and some of the single piece hoods. I don't like the style hood that comes on a 67, 68, 69 style machines.
Now the window display Red hooded Convertible in Reply 33, looks terrific, though the bag is plain.
I have no idea what model the first Hoover Convertible I ever used was. My parents got rid of the machine when I was about 8 years old too. I recall that it was like a mint green hood, that I'm fairly certain was a single piece. It did not have a headlight. The bag was white, but my parents also had the machine converted from a Type C to Type A bag, so the bag on the unit as I knew it was most likely not original. The handle was a round metal , with flip switch. From what I've seen, it most closely matches the machine that Fred, HooverCelebrity, poses with as his profile photo. Though, I'm not certain as I've never been able to find one in real life anywhere!!
Matt, I'm so glad that your Convertible is doing well now. Thank you for thinking of me!!
***Fred I hope you don't mind as I copy and paste that photo below! The machine in use here most closely matches what I've seen so far as the first vacuum I've ever used. That one or the mint chocolate chip ice cream colored green directly behind you with white/green pokodot bag, except that the machine my parents had was definitely a round handle, not rectangle. I have no idea what model number or motors are in either of those machines.
