New to the collection this week: a US-made, UK-specification Maytag Windtunnel U5450-M01! These were sold over here for a short time a couple of years ago; I wanted an example of 'Windtunnel Technology' for the collection...

It's unmistakably an American design! I love the performance; it's not light and it's not quiet, but it does a great job for 1300w. It really grooms the carpet.

And what a wide cleaning path!

14"...bigger even than the Turbomaster's brush-roll. Makes cleaning much quicker!

Can anyone tell me...

What the 'Hi-Reg' switch does? Does it alter the sensitivity of the Embedded Dirt Finder? There was no manual with the cleaner, and I don't want to alter the setting before I know what it does!

I love the Dirt Finder feature, btw - we had something similar on our T.O.L Hoover Turbopower 2/3/Purepower cleaners, although that actually boosted the power automatically as well, to help pick up the extra dirt.

It determine the sensitivity of the dirt sensor. If you want to get it "Deep Down Clean" you use high. Everyday cleaning its on normal. When we had a kenmore it had this on it. I just kept it on High all the time. Hope this helps.

Looks strange seeing the Maytag name on it. How is it for noise btw. I'm thinking the other day when I was in WalMart they had some WT's and I recollect them being made in Mexico where yours says made in USA. I could be wrong though.

I can't believe it was made in the USA! They are heavy and loud, and have an aggressive agitator that cleans well... you summed it up pretty good. I wonder if they have a Maytag version of the self-propelled model? I have always liked the translucent bag cover. They also produced a red one that was the same machine, but had a couple inch smaller cleaning width. The attachments and hose length on those are just dreadful!

Maytag Windtunnels

They were sold in Arnotts / House Of Fraser department store in Dundee, around about the turn of the Century.

That store closed, and now there are mickey mouse clothes shops in its place.

It just shows the nerve and audacity of MAYTAG... even a "Satellite". The HOOVER employees were truthful when they told that MAYTAG "raped " them. tsk, tsk tsk.

Hoover UK/Europe is owned by Candy of Italy. They own the rights to use both the Hoover and Constellation trademarks over here hence the rebadging.

The one Jack has is about 6-7 years old which I guess would have been when they were stil being made in North Canton
