So I recently bought an Oreck XL10 off eBay that was decribed and "manufacturer refurbished" and the photo on the listing was a stock photo, which was this.

Here is what arrived today!

Absolutely disgusted, it is going back!! I want my £104.99 back! I could of got one for about 40 quid in this same battered condition!

Oreck;

Nice find Alex. Those were still in stores not three years ago.
Is that your mud room with the nice travertine floor?
But gawd, who did the plaster work? I'd have to chisel that all out and piece in gypsum board and skim coat it.

No that is the stock photo for the Oreck. It is not a nice find, it is f**kin' battered, for how much I paid, it is ridiculous, especially since it was described as "manufacturer refurbished" it is also dirty.

Who refiurbished it? Ray Charles?? Phyllis Diller?

It's amazing how people use 'stock photos' like that, then send something entirely different. That mud room/stock photo looks like something straight out of Martha Stewart. Who REALLY lives like that?
I'd make a fuss. a BIG fuss.
Just me......................

If it had said seller refurbished I would of been a bit more forgiving, but to say manufacturer refurbished and then not look like it had left the Oreck factory, was just unbelievable! I suppose compared to what it sells for new and the 8 pack of bags and spare belts included, I should be grateful, but that is not the point!

I am demanding a full or partial refund as I have soucred a much better condition one on eBay earlier today for £28. I will just take off the new/better condition baseplate and brushroll off this XL10 I already have and put it on the one I bought today as that is all it needs and the one I bought today is in much, much better cosmetic condition, notice the bag is different despite being the same model, by the way. Maybe one is a special adddition or something?

Here is the link to the "manufacturer refurbished one

And here is the one I bought today, will keep the one I bought today and use the one I already have for spares I need off it.

John,

Like I always say, no wrath like from a cornered proud one.
Mess with me, you're messing with the wrong one.
I've caught auto mechanics lying, a vacuum repair guy, a doctor, a lawyer, a realtor, and a broker.
Record dates and times. Take a photo if possible, and produce a document or receipt.
Many people feel it isn't worth their time because they'd have to take off work to go to court. That was once me also. No more.
I see too many seniors working thankless jobs to struggle and pay their medicare supplimentals.
I think it's unfair when they have dedicated a life's work to a career.
That said, a few lawyers, and politicians on the bottom of the Delaware, or Susquahenna is what now?

I am not very savvy with ebay, but I was told by someone who is that you only ever trust a stock photo when a product is sold as brand-new A-grade. Is this so?

Any time a used (i.e. not brand new in box) item is listed on eBay, and the seller has used a stock photo, always ask them to send you a pic of the actual item they are selling. Always.

If the answer to this request is that they "don't have time", they can't be all that serious about selling the item in the first place. Either that, or they know full well the item is a heap of junk, but are choosing not to let on in the hopes the recipient will figure it's too much hassle to go through the returns procedure. Usually, I tend to suspect the latter.

Alex,

The item was misrepresented. If the seller offered no return, that is why.
Contact E-Bay. They offer every buyer satisfaction as advertised or a refund.

There's every possibility that the Oreck you've bought IS a manufacturer refurbished model. What you seem to forget is that refurbished doesn't mean a brand new body, Alex. It simply means the machine has seen some service, but might not be clean or completely blemish free.

Argos also do this with their clearance vacuums, so I dont know why you're getting your knickers in a twist. £104 is a heck of a saving when a refurbished Oreck of that model is taken into account. Given that they cost £300 anyway, I'd say you've got a bargain here.

Second above advice.

If an item is not New In the original Box, ask to see pictures of the actual machine.

I recently was going to bid on a Rainbow, there was some discrepancy with the pictures as they were showing a Gold one speed in one picture and a Black two speed in another.  I sent a message for seller to clarify, got no response--passed.

Sebofan.

If it is Manufacture refurbished, that means all parts work of mot up to factory spec are replaced so it leaves the factory as it would new.

I think it is not a bargin at all, considering I just paid £28 for another XL10 that is in much better cosmetic condition.

If it really was sent from Oreck this way, then they really need to buck their ideas up![this post was last edited: 3/1/2016-21:14]

I worked at an Oreck store for almost nine years and sold many factory refurbished models. I never saw any that didn't look and work like brand new. On your machine, any dirt/damage was done by the owner, it would've never been shipped out of Oreck like that. Had they been, the store owners would've never been interested. They were always at a reasonable price point with a one year warranty, even though when originally issued, they could've had a much longer warranty. I always said for the higher end models, you actually paid for that 5yr-10yr-lifetime etc, warranty up front.

The parts shown should have been replaced. And I wonder what the INTERNAL condition of this vacuum is??Was the fan, motor brushes, fancase, and such replaced?Don't think I will buy any "refurbished" Oreck vacuums!!!The NEW ones are bad enough!!They use new motor which are real SCREAMERS!!!At work the LOUD Oreck was replaced by a Sanitiare SC889 that I recomended when the front office folks asked me to recommend a new vacuum. The housekeeper LOVES the new Sanitaire!!Heck I might get one for my collection. It is two speed and uses the ST HEPA bags. And the new Sanitaire is QUIET-doesn't sound like a jet engine test stand!
