Lux Upright Nozzle Contaminants

Hello,

I replaced the brush roll in my Lux upright cleaner and cleaned the inside of the nozzle in the process. I couldn't believe the amount of contaminants that had been deposited in there instead of through the air duct after less than 6 months of cleaning it out. Sand, hair, & lint were among the worst contenders.

Is this typical of Lux uprights, or is there something I need to repair or replace?

The performance is satisfactory—which I've found is typical with the Lux uprights. They're not dirt diggers, but they get the surface dirt ok.

I think the air duct from the machine to the power head might need replacing i have a discoveery 2 and no dirt stays in the power head i would make sure nothing is blocking the air flow new filters new bag make sure your power head is spinning the brush roll also the air duct from the base to the power head needs to be properly screw on

Other things to consider--

--are air to cool motor moving through vents at side or rear as dirt'jumps'out of rug from vibration or blown by exhaust and possibly even static electric attraction.

I did go ahead and replace the duct hose (part # 46941), so I'll use it for a month or so and see if that does the trick. I don't like how the hose just pushes into the hose sleeve (part #45143) as it's hard to tell if it's in properly.

Curiously, the new hose is about 2" longer than the old one. It 'seems' to work. Do either of you know a way to check the connection for leaks? Would you recommend cutting the hose to match the size of the older one?

My cleaner is a Lux Commercial U129Q (w/ProTeam nozzle), so it vents at the back.

Changing Subjects ... I'm not a big fan of the System Performance Indicator light board (part #46931) so far as the red 'bag full' light doesn't work. I talked to a general vac store service tech who mentioned the possibility of a burned-out light or a blockage in the tubing of the pressure switch (part #46938) in the motor housing being plugged, so that will be my next project. I like having things in working order; although I generally replace the filter bag at ½ to ¾ full.

I replaced a duct hose and the new one was about 2 inches longer. I cut mine off and it fits better.


The duct hose does need to fit into the bottom of the power nozzle. I had to take my cover off


in order to get it properly seated.

Thanks, Bud. Mine does have a whoosh sound now that it didn't have before, but I can't tell if it's an air leak or if the airflow is that much greater than before. It does pick up much better with the duct hose and new brush roll.

Anyway, I'll take your suggestion in trimming the hose. And, yeah, since I'd replaced the brush roll I already had the cover off, so it was easier to attach the duct hose.
