Hope one of you many experts can help me out. I have repaired my Grand Marque Lux cord real several times. The problem is that the cord retracts in slowly and up to a certain point. The whole cord does not fully retract fully into the machine. I have taken it apart and re attached the coil on some instances and many times just tried to adjust the coil too. I have also tried leaving a little tension on the real when I close the machine up. The retracting may work for a month and then I have the same problem.

This leads me to my question that I hope someone can help me with.

1. When attaching the coil to the small wheel I know there is a place that the coil attaches to the small wheel. How many times should the coil go around the wheel?

2.How much tention should be on the real once the machine is closed up?

Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

I'm not an expert but able to offer some information.

Think of a weak-retracting cord reel like a window shade that doesn't fully retract. To fix the shade, it is first extended to cover the window. Then, the flat pin is removed from its bracket, and the shade is rolled by hand—a foot or so. The flat pin is then reinserted and the shade tension is checked for desirability. It can be further rolled or unrolled manually for adjustment.

Applying that concept to the cord reel extend the cord several feet until the pawl catches in the ratchet; then remove the cord reel from its mounted position and carefully wind the cord by hand three turns. Remount and check tension. Repeat as needed.

Hope it works.

Also, an old Electrolux tip to assist in cord operation is to dust the entire cord with talcum powder every year or so—depending on usage.

You're welcome, Richard. Let us know if you're able to get it working properly. If not, maybe the spring is shot.

Thanks for the compliment about Minneapolis. Frigid temp's notwithstanding it is a beautiful city when its a winter wonderland just as it is when it's a summer resort. It was awesome to be the host of Super Bowl LII; just wish the Vikings would have participated. Oh well, maybe next year.

Take care.
