Lux 5000

Scored a nice Lux 5000 this week. Lady said it needed a new hose. Before I picked it up, I was already pricing hoses on Ebay.

Got it home and decided, with the help of Google, to explore the hose handle. I found the power switch had some scoring at the terminals. I found a replacement in my stash (exact) and reassembled the handle. I hooked it directly to the PN and it worked! Even though the switch may have been the problem, I wondered if the source was the wands or PN. I have already taken the wands apart and found no problems except a bit of scoring (not melting) on a couple of male contacts.

I will mention that the female ends do have a tab that can be gently bent, to ensure snug contact.

To eliminate the possibility that a problem may be with the PN, I will be inspecting and cleaning it this weekend. Then I will clean the entire vacuum thoroughly.

If yours is an automatic model, C141C or C141E sold through commercial distributors, then you'll need to contact Aerus. If you provide them your serial #, which is on the stabilizer, you will also find out when it was manufactured.

Just finished cleaning and checking the PN. I am cleaning the vac and will try it our Sunday.

I stopped because I needed to spray vinegar in the bag chamber. Has to dry (kills germs and smell) before I try it out Sunday.

Already looks great after having be wiped down with rag with mild detergent followed by some 91% alcohol and a magic eraser.

Works great!

Before I ran it, I grabbed a big bag of Kirby cloth Hepa's from Crucial Vac that I have picked up at Goodwill for $2.99 and cut the bottom off. I then inserted it into the Lux chamber, grabbed a regular Elux vac bag. I cut 3/4 of the bag off, fit it down into the Hepa, making sure they were sealed in. Left the extra Hepa in place and ran the vac.

The results was still a strong suction and virtually no dust escaped.

Of course....

I only used the Hepa's because I got them cheap. Unless I can find them cheaper, I will just snatch up any that I think will work this way.

Once I get my Vita-Vac assembled, I will be trying out some Oreck Hepa bags. Got those for a song at a Goodwill a while back.

I like the idea of using the Simplicity F bags for my Air-Way & Vita-Vac, but I don't have any and they are pricey.

actually I got the idea from Tom Gasko and later Andy R. for use with Air-Ways. But instead of using the Simplicity Freedom bags, I will use what I have and then find a source for less expensive cloth hepa bags.

There may be other vacuum applications. So if you see a cheap package of bags, snap them up. You will definitely save some money as they are pricey.

The balance is using a hepa bag and wanting to discard it as soon as you can to prevent smelling up your vacuum.

Not sure what others have used, but a small trigger bottle with white vinegar does wonders (after the vinegar smell dissipates).

Another good cloth HEPA bag to Miss in the Air-Way is the Hoover type A cloth Hepa bag. Do not just the paper bags! I believe the type A will fit inside the Lux like the Oreck bag you used.
