I am moving and getting married. I am looking to liquidate my collectiona nd get out of the hobby. If anybody could give a link to a place where I can research my vacuums and ensure the details (make, model, year, etc) are correct, it would be greatly appreciated.

Oi Veh!!!!!

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">What a shame that you are getting out of the hobby.</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Hope you think twice before eliminating all your vacs and making a drastic move.</span>

Hey, all I'm gonna say to this is, as much as I'm interested in what you may have to offer (like all of us are), ONLY DO THIS IF THIS IS WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO!!!!!

You are REALLY GONNA REGRET IT if your wife-to-be is pressuring you to do this & can't accept your hobby. As a matter of fact, I would take it as a darn good sign she is NOT the woman for you if she doesn't accept you for who you are, & your hobbies. Also, you are gonna regret if you get rid of some of your really valuable & rare vacuums. Remember, you can't replace that 1924 Electrolux Model V so easily as you can that old watch you threw away, you liked so much & wish you could find another one.

Tell us what you've got.....but whatever you do, make sure this is what YOU want, NOT your wife wants!

Getting out of the hobby

Thanks for the response, guys. While it's interesting that many of you get the impression that my wife-to-be is the reason I am getting out of this hobby, that is simply not true. The reason I am doing this is because I need the space, the money, and am perfectly content with my other hobbies.

To answer the other questions, I have a few Royals, Hoovers, an electolux or two...all said, about 18 machines. I am going to sell them mostly at auction.

This next weekend is "Meet the parents" weekend. Taking her to my parent's home six hours away. After that, I will be photographing them, documenting them and researching them so I can list them to sell. I was just wondering if you guys know a good way to appraise them (website, informational database, etc).

As far as I know there is no appraisal site for vintage vacuum cleaners. Vintage vacuums are not like vintage cars, for example. As others have said on this forum vintage vacuum cleaners are usually not big ticket items. A vintage vacuum is only worth, what someone else is willing to pay for it. So don't expect to make a "killing" on these unless you have something really rare like a Compact with an ABC power nozzle or a bunch of new in the box vacuums ( depending on what they are).

We can't help you unless you provide pictures or a description of each vacuum.

Personally, I would have a very difficult time coming up with a dollar value on my own collection. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

Auction...

If you go to auction with your vacs, they will arrive at their true value.
Just a suggestion: Don't do what some sellers do by listing a ridiculously high starting price. This practice just puts bidders off, resulting in no bids at all.
