So, now that my family and I have a new vacation home, I am looking to purchase a new vacuum cleaner. I LOVE my old hoover and my shiny Kirby, but I can't see either going to florida. So I'm looking to purchase one of the following machines. either Kirby: DS80, Diamond, Avalir, Heritage II/legend; Hoover: Guardsman or similar (pre-tti and bagged, but no older than 90's), Conquest (bagged), Convertible or decade (5 amps or higher); Royal: All metal (no shake out bag, please), Decade style upright; or Panasonic: 7300 series or Power wave; Sanitaire: any model (no dirt cups). I may sound picky, but I'm looking for a quality machine that I know will last a while. I may also take it apart and clean it out, so it's not just a machine for my family, but also a fun project.

Additional machines

I should've also mentioned that I'll also do with a hoover commercial elite, 500-series kirby, Kirby Tradition, a prewar kirby, or any sebo (as long as it's not pricey).

My advice

Sanitaire's motors are awful nowadays, they don't last as long like they used to be. Keep in mind about some of the Kirbys that you've listed, they don't make the same colored parts for them anymore if you're really that picky. Panasonic parts are limited nowadays since they are no longer in the vacuum business. Same goes for the Elites and Decades. You can still find the Hoover Guardsman and Conquest on the commercial lineup. They're bagless however you can swap from dirt cups to outer bags but I would wait until the warranty is up. If you really want a Sebo that is not pricey, go look into the Hoover Insight while you still can because they just recently got discontinued. But overall, I would suggest to look into Royal. Lifetime warranty on the motor housings, the fan case, and the nozzle. Built to last longer. And they can out clean the others on the list.

Jack...your timing is perfect...

I have multiples of a few of what you're hunting for. I do not have any JUNK. My machines are nice (I'm picky, too). Contact me if you'd like more info. In fact, I'm in the middle of photographing these right now--as I had intended to offer them up here this week!
