That darn Ward Cleaver is so thoughtful. A new GE Swivel top cleaner with reach-easy" cleaning and the famous GE double action floor tool. He even got the deluxe model wtih a cord winder, attachment caddy, chrome trim and 3 suction level adjustment! So much more fun than a new peal neckless.

Now here is the REAL story. A dear friend (who does not collect vacuums) asked me if I would be interested in an old vacuum. Now he has my attention. This vacuum was purchased by this friends partners grandmother in 1969. She had an Electrolux but felt she might not live long enought to get her money's worth out of another Electrolux. She got this GE new for under $26.00. They have the original paperwork and the instruction book from the store. What a buy!
He packed the machine and sent it FED EX to my front door today. What a nice early Christmas gift. Thank you,Thank you!
It is in perfect shape with only the hose having been replaced at some time. It was surprisd at how quiet the machine was for being 40 years old. It actually worked pretty good on my thick carpets thanks to GE's double action floor tool! I wonder if any of my new "plastic" vacs will still be around in 40 years. The motor has the GE sound and smell.
This will be my first GE in my collection.
I wonder if June Cleaver still has her's-lol

My friend has the original bill of sale still attached to the instruction book. It came from a department store and was delivered to the house.
Don't you bet it was an end of season sale? What a smart shopper she must have been in her day.
I was quite surprised at the suction and how quiet the motor was in use. It has the famous GE motor sound.
The swivel top reminds me of my Air-Ways and the "Double Action" floor tool made my thick carpets look very well groomed. It can't compare with the suction of my new Dyson DC23 but I would be very surprised if any of my new plastic vacuums will be around and still working after 40 years! As a matter of fact the old GE makes my new Hoovers and Dyson look so cheap and of the moment.
I am sure June was very happy with her GE Swivel top cord reel cleaner. What fun!

Beautiful Swiveltop, Rob!

It looks immaculate! I do remember seeing June Cleaver running one, and also an episode where Wally is outside cleaning the car with it, steps in a puddle in the driveway, and gets zapped!
By the way, your Christmas tree is beautiful too, especially with the vintage lights and ornaments!

That Ward is such a thoughtful guy!!! June is so LUCKY!!

Just beautiful Rob, thanks so much for sharing with us. Your tree and decorations are just beautiful!!!

Congratulations on that beauty, Rob. That's the 3rd one of these in pale green with all the tools and the basket that have popped up recently. Last week on Ebay one in Ohio went for $113.50 with 11 bidders, of which I was one and lost. A few hours later another one in Pennsylvania went for only $9.99 with only one bidder and I wasn't him either. :-( Oh well, next time.

Dave

Yes June sure is lucky =)

I love the swivel top, and that color scheme is gorgous!!Congrats on that gem.
The Swivel-Tops are getting harder and harder to find.
Dave I missed both those auctions, i dont know how cause im always window shopping. What color was the 9.99?Pleese dont say blue or harvest. Although both prices arn't in my budget these days, for 9.99 I woulda siphoned 10 bucks worth of gas out of my car and walked to work lol.

Thank you Dave. I have my eyes on one but not as nice as June's thats for sure.
And the tree IS beautiful,I love the vintage ornaments. I have a few that were my great grans, form 1925 when she got married!
