Do the UK models have larger motors? My 28 is rated at 300w, and when plugged into a wattmeter, indeed reads about 300w on startup. Just curious!

I also have another question. By the way, beautiful job with this!! I would love to bring my model 65 convertible to you and see what you could do with the warped motor head. I know, can't fix that on that model and everyone has that problem. Anyhow, my question is this. The owner claimed that she loved the dusting tools. Was the suction on that particular design, with attachments, better than on later "convertible" models? I have always looked at model 28 and the early 61- 64 models from afar and wondered if that side tool conversion approach was better than the convertible's

Does anyone know where one can obtain the special tip that goes on the grease gun to grease the bearings? I would like to be able to grease the bearings on my Convertibles and that tool would make it so much easier. Thanks in advance.

And I'm sure the lady will be pleased with wht she sees when she comes to pick the machine up. The 28 has always been one of my favorite Hoovers, and you've done a great job restoring that one.

I have not seen service nor heard of any like it that compares with what you gave that lady and her beautiful 28. You went way above the "call of duty" for that 28 and its owner. Wow, I hope she leaves it in her will for you !! My Vac collection IS in my will to be sure someone gets them who wants and appreciates them. God forbid I should die before my time . Again Chris, it was great talking with you yesterday (sorry to have bothered you during business hours tho) and keep up the great service you provide to your customers and how you talk with them when they visit your store. I overheard the one conversation you had with a customer and you spoke with knowledge and politeness. A big thumbs up to you !!!

for all the kind words. the hoover grease nozzle tip is N.L.A. from hoover. but I would think you could take a grease gun and foce grease in the bearing if you dont have a nozzle tip.

is from a model G it has a date of 1965 stamped on the bottom. was found at a house sale in the box pile for customers to take ther junk home in.



Hoover 28 tool suction is ok for dusting, thats all. the models 60-64 do have a bit better suction, still not great. the convertibles have a bit better because of the two spead motor.

hose suction

i personally find better hose suction with my 1952 612 side conversion than my 1970 652c rear conversion 2speed. when you put a fresh bag on suction is quite good through the hose but it seems to weaken after the first hour, as if the paper bag pores clog with dust, however, the 612 with cloth bag only and single speed seems to provide stronger more long lasting suction

Interesting. This confirms what I always thought. My mother and aunts that owned convertibles (model 65 pink through the early 60s light blue model - US) at that time, always looked down their noses at the tool suction, either didn't buy the tools or threw them away and insisted on having a canister for above floor cleaning. A shame that Hoover couldn't improve the performance at the time considering all the hype about tool conversion. I figured since this lady loved her dusting tools for so many years that they must be better with side conversion. And I'm sure even better now after this overhaul.

How did you lube the new top bearing on the 28? Was it with the grease gun or how? I'm going to be working on my 28 and want to make sure that I do know what to do in advance. Thanks

Do not grease the top sleeve bearing. they do not need lube. but you can use some Q-tips, with some motor oil to cleen the bearing if needed.

Do original issue model 28 top bearings require grease or were they designed to run dry or with light oiling as with Convertibles?
