The seller messaged me and left a phone number, going to see it at lunchtime (which is nice as I can see if it's worth bidding on or not)

The fact that you've said their getting rare now makes me want to get it restore it and add it to the collection. Trouble is I'll have to take an ear bashing from the missus who moans about the 875 being in bits, the panasonic being in bits and the turbopower 2 not working...

Maybe it could live in the garage at mums for a few weeks whilst I pull my finger out!

Oh, and 912 or 912A (did some extensive scouring through the archives here), seller isn't sure which as he can't find the ratings plate (emailed him and asked). Hope it's there somewhere and he just doesnt know wher to look. Are they blatent on these, or hidden?

Right, just come back from going to have a look. Elderly chap selling, says it's been in storage since 1975ish. Very nice condition, no hoover logo on the bag but the bag seems to be in very good condition, nice leather patch on the bottom unmarked. Has a grey switch, and cable feed rubber (if that makes sense).

Seller said it runs, they plugged it in the other day. He retored bicycles, so I imagine it does run

Brushroll looks good, will order some brushes for it though (unless anyone has any they wish to part with!), and I need a rear wheel, which I think I have sorted already thanks to Col!

Anyway, he mentioned it was also for sale on Gumtree, and locally, so did I want to make an offer. I said £15, and he shook my hand! Paying and collecting it on Friday!

I would be inclined to say so, either that or he didn't know what he was looking for (I take it he's not a collector?).

No, not a collector, but he was pleased when I said I collected them, rather than wanting it for scrap.

The fact that it runs is enough, it's from the era where a bit of new grease and a gentle overhaul should see it 100% again. Got a belt for it too (bought 2 for the 875, and only needed one!)

Indeed - a bit of spit and polish will bring it up like new. Unlike newer vacuum cleaners you won't be worrying about snapping pieces of plastic etc... Just a few flat head screws and the hood should lift right off.

heres mine

i cant think where you would get wheels but this machine is virtually indistructable and simple to work on 2 screws and the hood comes off a fiew more screws and the motors out very little to do to then they just keep going

this

one needed new flex and a belt i took it to work one day after the henry broke bown the cleaners were delighted they have a very large function room to vac with good quality carpet i pit a paper bag inside the cloth bag before letting them get there hands on it when they had finished we looked in the bag and couldnt believe our eyes the bag was at least half full with that ground in dust that gets right down into a carpet the everthing the Henry had missed i am thinking of letting them use it all the time then it will be doing what it was meant to do and not stuck in my shed

yes very simple

but very efective just pull the spring loaded pin and turn the wheels to the desired height these machines were built to withstand almost anything and were used in cinemas and hotels that had lots of carpet the big bag meant you didnt have to empty it two often either they are also really quiet i found this one in an old pub that was about to be demolished it stank of stale beer and fags but after some TLC its fine
