I love these early Elites. I've got about 10 of them total so far.
Here are my white and green 200's and though not 88-90 but still cool are my Encore and Sprint (both the same thing) in the 200 style. They are from 1995

the reason the red ones look funny is because I just have the handels sitting in place for the pic and not attached (I was in the middle of the spa treatment when I got the idea to do this thread

the 350 on the end has a big tear in the bag so I will have to have that hand stiched. My oldes elite of them all is the maroon 400. It's dated 3 1988
I have two more that I forgot to take a pic of. They are a while 350 (matching mate to the white 200) and a beautiful grey with maroon bag 350

I don't have any Elite's from that time :( But I do have a Commercial version :) BTW shouldn't this be in the Vintage section??

I love that 300 and 400. Quite the hard to find ones of the bunch. My 5.0 and 6.0 need new bags, because the lettering got messed up, but I can't find those bags for sale anywhere.Kirbyvertibles you're the only one I've seen with the exact same bags as mine on your 5.0 and 6.0/600. I'm still missing and wanting a 3,4, and 500.I do have a blue 600 and one of those 95' encores, but no pictures of them.

From 1990

Here is what was not supposed to be mine, Legacy 810. I am somewhat glad now that I have it though. Wish it was a 730 because I want that more than any other vacuum right now. I also have a thing for the gray bodied, white attachment and cord Elites/Legacys.

I like them too

Had to include this too, because it was the last year for the gray body machines, I believe (1993). And this Runabout (another one, not this actual 1 unfortunately) was the first vacuum I ever saw as a kid. That's also why turqouise is my favorite color and because I couldn't resist, I bought the turqoise 96' Tempo. And I'm set to get another turqoise runabout but with a headlight.

That runabout was the same model I had in 93! I now have the one with headlight. Never knew about that Tempo hmmmm how did that excape me? lol

vacuumman, I love the bags on those. I was told thye were a kmart special bag?? My very first real vacuum was the 6.0 with that bag but sadly it's gone now but I got lucky when I found the one I have now. I have that same Legacy dated 1992

We had VERY few elite models. They are quite a rare treat in the UK! The turbopowers are much more common, you had them in the US as the hoover sovereign, which I understand weren't too common in the us! Complete opposites lol:)

The Hoover Elites and Hoover Turbopowers are very, VERY alike, they were both lightweight, use practiaclly the same cardboard plate on the bag but the bag is slightly longer on an Elite, they sound quite similar, especially the 90's Turbopowers, they have similar features, Hoover Elites and Hoover Turbopowers that had on-board tools used a similar hose and wand storage set up, though the cleaning tools were all in one place on the back of all Turbopower Total Systems, where as they are put all over the place on an Elite depending on the model and appart from all that, they probably both do the same excellent job.

The Hoover Turbopowers came a good few years before the Elite (the Elite was launched in 1988 in the US, I believe, please correct me if I am wrong and the Turbopowers were launched in 1983 in the UK) Hoover were still (I believe at that time) the same company so they will probably of shared Ideas, I imagine, which explains why US Hoover brought out a similar machine but then again I could be talking complete rubbish and it could of been entirely their design, I am not certain on that.

The Elite and Turbopower don't look alike at all but they have the same basic design, the Turbopowers were more popular here, probably because they offered more features as we only got one Turbolite model I am not sure if the Turbolite was more expensive than a Turbopower Junior or not?
The Turbolite was named in the US an Elite 200 we did however get a Hoover legacy style machine that was in red and was called the Hoover Commercial, again, don't know how successful they were?

Alex.

The Turbolite advertised in a Hoover brochure circa 1991

I have heard the Turbolite was only on sale from 88/89 but in this brochure is the Turbomaster Freedom which didn't come out untill 1991 so maybe the Turbolites were on sale a bit longer, either that or the Freedom came out earlier, god knows.[this post was last edited: 4/10/2013-12:46]

As a very young child my mother got an Elite 200in early 1989, it was the one with the white hood. It was replaced in April 1994 with a Hoover Runabout like pictured above, except it had the headlight.

I have been told 2 different things about bags, both of which would indicate those are kmart specials. One was that any hoover bag with an orange stripe came from Kmart. The other was someone mentioned to me the 5.0 was a kmart special, along with that runabout.

Hoover Elite 300, upper bag clip is broken so I have it screwed into the bag support spring for now.

And a Soft and Light Supreme, not necessarily an "Elite" but same bodystyle and parts.

At my apartment in Albany so I won't be able to get any other pics until I go home.
