Got a call today from a guy that used to be on the VCCC website and Forum, his name is Jim Kirby (not related to THE Jim Kirby),,he has an extensive collection of about 125-150 vacs that he wants to sell,,either individually, or all at once. He is an older guy and has gone to a retirement home is the reason for selling.
From what it sounds like, his collection is mostly of the older vacs of the 1920s thru 1960s. He said he does have a few of the newer (1980s) machines.
He is willing to sell the machines for 25-30 dollars each.
He also said all of them do run. Of course they are NOT A1 Pristine condition,,but do have hoses and attachments,,maybe not complete sets.
If you are interested, let me know, and i will be happy to put you in touch with him.

Sorry, forgot to say,,he has all different brands and types of vacs in his collection,,many older Hoovers,Eureka, Royals, Kirbys, ect. A little bit of everything. If there is a specific model you are interested in,,he probablly has it.

I'd be interested he has any sort of Eureka upright with a cord-reel (ie: those white or chome and blue ones from the 60's or the gold box-top models) <br

Alex, everyone, yes,Jim is OK for now,,but his health is declining,,and he has had some health issues the last few yrs. He has retired and moved to an Assisted Living Facility in Topeka, Ks. He has a cousin that is helping him sort out the collection.
A couple other VCCC members (that live in the area) and i are going to go over to Topeka and view the collection in mid Oct.,on a Sunday.
Anyone here is welcome to join us,,the more the merrier
Let me know if interested in joining us,,KCI Airport is only an hour from Topeka. Or if there is a specific vac you are interested in,,he may and probablly does have it. Again tho,,these machines are NOT A1 Pristene, but Jim said they are all at least running, but, please dont expect miracles! hah <br
No,,,he does NOT have an Electrolux Hospital Model G (my dream machine!),,darn it.

Meant to say too,,it sounds like the bulk of this collection is pre-war and post-war machines. It dosent sound like there is much after late 1960s. I know the cord reel Hoover and Eureka upright models and rare Lux and pre 500 series Kirby models are in high demand. If you cant come view the collection and buy it yourself and haul it home,,i will check for you,,and if he has a them i will grab them,,BUT,,its going to be up to YOU to either come get it,,or arrange shipping, all paid in advance.
I will be happy to drop the machine off at a mailing/shipping station, with your name and address, but the rest is up to you! <br
Please understand, If there is a problem with the machine itself, If you dont like what you get, or how the machine was wrapped up,and sent,,call THEM,,NOT me! <br
Sorry, just not in the vac boxing and shipping business.

I am not interested in any cleaners, but I too had wondered about him. I hadn't seen him in on any forums in a while, and YEARS ago, (probably 5), he was kind enough to send me a Kirby poster with all the Kirby models up to the Ultimate G on it.... it got destroyed in a move, but I will never forget he nice he was to do that for me. I can't find Kirby or Electrolux posters anywhere now! Kirby used to have all the models on their web site, but no longer do... Electrolux still has a printable "poster", but much smaller than the real thing. <br
Hope this next bit if Jim's life is smooth for him. Good guy he is!

I was wondering what happened to Jim. I'm very sorry to hear of his failing health. I too wish him all the best. Several years ago, he helped put me in touch with a flea market vendor that had a Hoover Dial-A-Matic 1110
The cleaner I remember best of Jim's collection was a pristine 1949 G.E. AVF-26 upright that he used in the cleaning competition (at the convention) about 10 years ago. If there was anyway I could acquire that cleaner, I would love to have it for my collection <br

Attention....

Please do not call Jim at the above listed number, as this was not meant for publication. He lives in an assisted living facility, and does not have a direct line into his apartment, nor does he have a cell phone. He was kind enough to call me about the sale, as was rather suprised that all this info was put out here on the website. <br

Sorry for the misunderstanding,Jim called me and said he was wanting to sell his collection, and to spread the word to others, and notify anyone that may be interested in old vacuums,,and since he has been a member of the VCCC at one time, i assumed this would be the place. I have talked to him omn the phone a few times (he called me) before, but really dont know him personally.
Im not interested in buying any of the machines for myself,(just dont have the money or storage space) ,was just trying to help someone else,,sorry for the mistake.
Since there is no way of reaching him on a direct line, ill wait to hear from him again and clear it with him before posting about it in the future. Thank you!

Oh

I feel very insensitive right now because I ignored the other posts and I too wish Jim the best right now I hope he is OK. I feel like a jerk right no
-Scott

Oh no Scott,,your fine,,it was my mistake,,i didnt know the phone # he gave me was not his personal line.
It sounds like Jim is OK,,but has had some health issues, and is downsizing because of moving to a rest home/assisted living facility.

I feel bad for him having to move and give up his collection. If there is a big brown Hoover from the 50s for sale, I would be interested. I feel like such a vulture.

No no,,he wants to sell! He dosent sound sad about it,,infact he sounds kinda relieved. He would rather his collection go to someone who appreciates old vacs, rather than they go to the dumpster. Ill get a list and hopefully some pics of what he has exactly and what kind of shape they are in.
