I went into my local K Mart tonight. They just had a "Summer Blowout Sale", getting ready for a "Fabulous Fall". ALL of the top shelves are bare. That might be to make room for the plastic pumpkins.
I naturally went to the vacuum section.
There was ONLY ONE HOOVER cleaner in the the entire display. They also don't even sell Genuine Hoover Bags. I'm wondering......................

Last I looked, Kmart here mostly had low end Bissell and Kenmore uprights and a few low end Bissell, Eureka and Kenmore canisters. Maybe a Hoover or two was about it.

In Illinois

As far as I know, there are still two KMarts in Illinois, however i haven't been in either in a long time so i am unaware of the vacuum section there.

KMart

They just recently closed the big one in Lexington KY which was the last close one to me. I'm not sure how much longer KMart (or Sears for that matter) are going to survive!

Circling the drain...

If Sears and Kmart were people, they'd be in hospice care. It's only a matter of time before they're just a memory. Kmart is pretty much gone from North Carolina and the number of Sears stores is dwindling. Greensboro has a traditional Sears at the upscale shopping mall. It was extensively remodeled and subdivided five or six years ago with about a third of the space leased out to Whole Foods. We've also got a Sears Outlet across town, which I understand is actually a separate company. It occupies part of what used to be a Super Kmart. When they downgraded it to a "Big K" about ten or twelve years ago, they subdivided the interior of the store and set up the Sears Outlet without actually building any permanent walls between the two, just pegboard between the shelving units. The wall finally went up after the Kmart closed down in 2014. I guess they were waiting for the new tenant, a discount retailer called Gabe's, to pick up the tab for that.

I've heard more than one person say in recent months that they're not considering Sears for a needed appliance purchase because they don't think the company will be around to stand behind the product. I think both Sears and Kmart will be completely gone in the next 3-5 years and that's a generous estimate. A few reminders of Sears may live on, however. The Craftsman tools brand will outlive Sears since it was sold to Dewalt/Stanley earlier this year and I could see the same possibly happening with Kenmore appliances. There may still be some value in the name even though it's essentially a re-badge brand. Sears will also likely cut Land's End loose and it would likely survive the sinking of Sears as a mail order/ecommerce business. I could actually see Amazon acquiring it.

I once heard it said that Amazon could buy Kenmore appliances and Sears Home Services. Sounds like a good idea - basically what Sears could have become had they done what Amazon did in the digital age.

K-Mart

John, there are 3 K-marts left in Indy. One,is dump on the westside, and the other 2 are descent outside and inside.I try to support the closest one near me.When I go again,I will take a look at the vacuum dept.I'm always on a mission to get what I need.It is sad to see K-mart and Sear's leaving the market. They do offer items one can get at a much lesser price, than other box changes.

Best Buy or Home Depot should acquire the Kenmore brandname, products and supplier contracts. They have been a dependable brand of American appliances for decades. It would be like "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" if Kenmore products disappeared along with the Sears chain.

My K-Mart closed back in April

Hello. I never really went to K-mart considering there was a Target and Walmart within yards of it, but for some reason I connect K-Mart with Christmas.

Kansas and Oklahoma are losing SEVERAL of their K-mart and Sears stores. The K-mart in Bartlesville Ok I swear marked everything UP 30% then marked down 30% so the price is the same and people fall for it. Even at 30% off it's still higher than our Walmart regular price. We went in this Summer to see if they had their cheap pools on sale and they were horribly high. We just ended up getting the in ground pool going again. (Those of you at the convention didn't see that. I forget to show you the pool house lol)

mark up / mark down

Yes, the mark up, then mark down strategy is very common with store closing sales and not just Kmart. I don't even bother to darken the door of a store closing sale until the prices fall below 50 percent off.

k-mart

Most if not all of the k-marts are gone from the Saint Louis Missouri area, there are two sears stores that I know of that are still here, but k-mart is definitely a dying store, I can't help but wonder if the Sears company regrets buying them back in 2006 I think it was.

Sears/Kmart merger

Yes, a lot of industry pundits questioned the wisdom of that merger at the time it happened. The thinking was that there weren't sufficient synergies to be realized between the two companies. It would appear the pundits were correct.
