Im pretty sure my safety switch is done on my d80. I also hate the safety swtch on early 500 series.
I have a wiring question. For the d80 its 2 speed. Red yellow one speed red white another. Since there is only one red you use 2 wires attach to the red one for each speed connect split red wire 1 to yellow connect red wire 2 to white. Attach power switch or toggle switch to open and close circuit. Do that for high and low speed. In theory would this work.
2nd question 500 series has the pain in the butt switch. The vacuum is only one speed. The wires that go to safety switch could you just connect power switch. This would turn vacuum on with no switch and off with no switch just poser switch.
Im pretty good with electrical. I am almost positive 509 sedies would work. I know concept of d89 is good just 2 switches is redneck and just not too feasible.
I could wire d80 with single speed switch hook low speed to main power and high speed to single speed switch.
I hope i didn't lose anybody. Would like feedback please.

Assuming you mean direct connect low speed to line power, and high speed on the switch, so whenever you plug in the vac, it'd run on low? I mean. You could do that.

By the way, when talking about wire colors, and you say two colors in succession (ie, 'red white' [usually written 'red/white']), it implies you're talking about a single red wire with a white stripe.

What I'm gathering is that line power is red, low speed yellow, high speed white?

4 wires
Red wire 1 white wire 2 yellow wire three green wire 4.
Red 1 split into 2 red wires red 1 red 2
Red 1 white 2 together. Power 1
Red 2 yellow 3 together. Power 2
I could power 1 to plug in for direct power. Power 2 i could run to a toggle switch or to safety switch so i have option to turn on and off as needed.

It should be known that the 240-volt export versions of the Classic Omega, Classic III and Tradition were also single-speed units, even though they used the same exact speed switch as our 120-volt units!

Hey

I got it after i read it. I was practicing my verbiage. It makes sense to me but thanks for tips im no English major.
I think i found out the problem. The carbon brush holde. On one holder the copper square cylinder that holds carbon brush came loose from rest of brush bolder. It basically jammed carbon brush and copper piece into armiture sparking like crazy.
I put ndw carbon brush holder and new carbon brush on. I turned vacuum on used seater stkne on Armiture. Then i tried blowing excess off and out oc housing and poof went smoke. I turned off and field batting came loose when I blew and caught on fire. I decided that maybe another day.
In short I learned a lot of things not to do. Les
