Kirby trim

Alright guys, I located a company in NJ that specializes in metal restoration and will polish up my 560 to a mirror. Really can't wait. The question I have is seeing as Kirby still has someone manufacturing new replacement trim for the older model restorations, could I possibly contact them directly to get trim pieces made in the original red color? I will not ruin this machine with some other color!! Has anyone attempted this?

As a backup whats the best way to remove all the trim so as to not damage it? I am really concerned about this.

You can paint trim. I will look up the steps and types of paint you need. I have it somewhere.

How to replace trim on old Kirbys....

1) Break off the old trim pieces.
2) Grind off (or cut off) rivets from the floor nozzle.
3) Leave old rivets on headlight cover.
4) Prepare and paint new trim pieces according to manufacturer's directions with the following products:
SEM Plastic and Leather Prep- 38353
SEM Color Coat-- Firethorn Red- 15113
5) Allow 24 hours for drying.
6) Using a very small screwdriver, stretch the new trim piece over the rivets on the headlight cover, then complete the application for the straight edges of the remainder of the trim.
7) Using a pop rivet "gun", rivet the nozzle bumper trim first for both ends, then stretch the new bumper trim over the remainder of the nozzle surface. A small stainless steel washer added under each rivet gives more holding strength and looks nicer.

By the way....

...you will not be disappointed. SEM products are superb. They adhere very well and are flexible as advertised.

As far as obtaining new trim for the old Kirbys, you cannot get any other color but the "Sirocco" (tan-like) color. Buy new trim and replace the old...you will not be disappointed. It is easier than you think to prep, paint, and install the new trim.

What color would the Classic III red trim be? It's actually slightly darker than the 513-561 red trim.

What spray paint color would you use for Classic III trim?
