So my Kirby Tradition arrived from eBay to day, it's pretty dirty, so I've cleaned it a bit, but I had some major problems in the belt department. The belt it was shipped with had snap, it was very stretched and very brittle, it looked like it had been left on since '79! Anyway, I fitted a belt from my G5 on and cleaned my rug with it, it did a reasonable job, not as good as I had expected. Then I went to check the belt, it had snapped! I don't know why this happed, but it was very strange. Perhaps there's something wrong with the brush roll. Now I've fitted another belt, it I've tested it, it seems good! Hopefully it'll stay good, but I'll post this incase something goes wrong.

Tom,

It is a fact the knurled belt (301291) is not recommended if the brush roll in your nozzle is the older style with the sleeve bearings.

Does your rug nozzle have the old-style brush roll w/sleeve bearings, or the new-style one with the removable end caps and ball bearings?

Instead of buying a soft belt, I would recommend buying a four row ball bearing brushroll. It will perform much better with a knurled belt and four row brushroll. The new brushroll with give double the agitation, and will last much longer than the old sleeve bearing brushroll.
