Kirby Rug Renovator & Shake-out bag

I have a couple of questions regarding Kirbys that I'd like some help with please;

Is the so-called Rug Renovator;
Another term for the whole carpet shampooer? With suds tray.
Or the black-bristled shampoo brushroll used separately? In the polisher nozzle? (mine doesn't fit).
Or the brown bristled polishing brushroll, used without wax obviously, when fluffing carpet?
Or none of the above, and something I'm short of?

I've seen different combinations, all called the same and I'm a little confused. I want to fluff up a flattened carpet without damaging the pile.


When a shakeout bag was used as originally intended, without paper bag liner, was there a fill tube of any kind (cloth or plastic) to carry the dirt to the top of the bag?

Or does the machine try to push new air and dirt through the heavy debris sitting in the emtor and at the bottom of the cloth bag?

Alan,

The first description you gave would be correct, regarding the Rug Renovator.

Some Traditions did have actual shake-out bags with the short zipper, but those bags intended for the disposable bag system could also be used as shake-out bags ... if you remove the fill tube assembly first.

Thanks. The guy on YouTube giving his carpet a deep-down kirby revitalizing fluffing to bring back the pile, using a polishing nozzle & black-bristled brushroll, has made his own solution, I guess?

So with a shakout, the air just blows a path through all the heavy dust and dirt in the bottom of the bag? Wouldn't it be quite compacted? Or was it meant to be emptied after every use?

I thought I might leave one of my Traditions as a shakeout. But I can't see it working with a bag load of debris!

Have I missed a step? Are the cloth outer bags the size they are to allow for air/dirt separation rather than to accommodate a whole load of dirt?

Alan,

Yes... Kirby recommends you empty the shake-out bag after EVERY use ... otherwise, all the accumulated dirt and dust may reduce the cleaning efficiency.

As to the Style 1 disposable bag system ... the fill tube was too narrow for the bigger mounds of dirt being collected, and thus impacted cleaning efficiency.

Shake out Kirbys don’t have a fill tube. Only the heavy particles settle into the emptor; everything else coats the inside of the cloth bag and needs to be shaken/scraped out.

Some say it’s not a great system. As someone who had three Kirbys with shake out bags, I concur.

That said, the exhaust air doesn’t have to “bubble up” through the collected dirt. Note that the emptor is quite deep and that you would have to collect several cups of sand before you would block the exhaust.

Hey

The shakeout had bag clamps and no sani pocket on all Kirby's up to Kirby 562. Sanitronic 7 in 1963. The zipper is on through classic 3 2c.
The tradition has no sani pocket this could be because emtor changed. Heritage with hammertone grey emtor had shakeout option. Im pretty sure the heritage 2 had plastic mini emtor. I also believe the comvac which is a heritage commercial vac had a shakeout option.
