I was given a Kirby that my parents stopped using in the mid '90s and it needs a new replaceable bag. My mom said that it was converted at least 40 years ago from the cloth kind to a disposable paper bag. It looks like your typical bag, except instead of having a hole where it attaches to the vacuum it has a paper trunk that goes to the line in near the bottom. The only marking is "Genuine Eureka Product."

Any ideas where I can find a replacement? I'd rather use this than our newer vacuum, it's much stronger.

Matt, that type of bag is the standard F&G paper bag that can be bought in any department store that sells vacuum cleaners. Walmart is a good place to find F&G bags.

Awesome!!! Even with a bag that's basically full when we tested it against new vacuum we already had the results weren't even close. This thing pulls crazy hard! The only other issues are the light bulb is burned out and the power cord is sticky.

I remember this thing from way back when. Someone paid their rent with it at the apartment complex my grandma managed, who then gave it to my parents, who left it in their garage when mom got something new in like 1995.

I like vintage and MCM stuff and rescued it last spring. It's cleaned but not polished and has a new belt. Once I swap the bag out It'll be take over for regular use here at home. It would be nice to polish it but with a baby there is very little time right now.

Matt,

The F&G bag converter setup was known to greatly reduce the power of the cleaner due to the architecture of the bottom setup. If you replaced this with a Heritage II-style Mini-Emtor setup you will get a lot more power and do less harm to the motor. This is what I did with my Classic III some time back:

I can go with the Heritage bag assembly-works well on any rear discharge Kirby-not top discharge as on G machines.I have one of those F&G outer bags-Horrible design.Chokes off the power of the Kirby.

reconvert!

I'd propose reconverting it to what Kirby originally had in mind: dump bag. Sani-emptors and the green filter bags are still available. As mentioned above, airflow will improve dramatically. If you like it now, just wait!

Well said! Emptors are pretty easy to find, and for some reason I do see DS 80 bags every now and then on Ebay. Amazing!!

Sorry for the late response, I've been on vacation for almost a week.

So I'm not opposed to reconverting since the cover it has right now is a harvest gold corduroy one... It looks like parts are available on eBay. How would you tell whether they're any good? I'm assuming that the actual green bag is something that once emptied out, would be hands washed in the sink? The last thing I'd want is to end up with a bag that's at the end of its life and can't be used.

We have hardwood and tile flooring everywhere, most of what we clean is dust + a little fuzz from the car and dog. I haven't had a look into the attachments bag, I've just set the height and pushed it around like if there was carpet there.
