Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 just aquired! Need help figuring it out!

I just bought a Kirby DS 80 at a garage sale and need help. It came with original boxes and lots of attachments. There is a paint sprayer, a crystalator and several front parts with a variety of rollers. One even has a tray that rides in front for some purpose! I am very ignorant on all of these parts. There is no manual. The motor and suction is strong. The zipper on the bag needs replacing, otherwise the bag is in good shape.
Was this worth the $25.00 that I paid for it?

for all of that it was a steal at $25!

there is a classic III manual here in on the manuals section of the main page of vacuumland. there were no attachment differences between those models, just bigger motor and rug nozzle sizes. so you can learn from there what does what and why.

Ya beat the house kid! A Dual-80 can bring 200.00 easily. Now, the gismo with the tray is called the "Kirby Rug Renovator". It is a shampoo system that uses dry suds rather than very wet ones. The idea was that it was better for the carpet's backing not to soak it wet, so, Kirby provided an extremely concentrated "dry" shampoo that lifted dirt chemically and deposited in the tray. The shampoo supply was in a tank that pre-empted the Sani-Emptor, following a short motor blow to clear out the dirt from the manifold. The Rug renovator was either loved or hated and in many instances I think relegated to the top of the shelf. Now, about hose attachments; If you have a Dual-80 that means that you have two speeds--a high speed for the hose attachments that is automatically activated by putting on the hose. This high speed is not generally considered a good idea among old Kirby people like myself. Often, the motor life could be shortenend by the high speed. This can be easily remedied by having a technitian disable the high speed. I do recomend it. (I used to work for Kirby). Always check the brush roll at every bag emptying and remove from it accumulated string. From time to time one of the ends must be removed from the brush roll to get at the debris embeded behind the guard which usually doesn't guard very well . Taking out the long screw will loosen the bearing cap and you can pull it off the shaft--but first, mark the "top" side where the screw is removed with a screwdriver tip to remember the side for replacing exactly as removed. An ice pick is very handy here to re-align the bearing cap with the rod shaft inside the brush. The wide side goes on the corresponding wide bracket end and they just pust back together. After replacing Triple Cushion Vibe head before turning the belt lifter back "on", adjust each end screw on the brush roll found at each end now on the nozel bottom. Adjust them and, turning the brush roll manually, adjust each side so that 1/8th inch of brush protrudes on each side. Be sure and put it in your will because it will still be working in your old age! Have fun!
