I recently bought a DS80 at red racks. I have cleaned it up and polished it. However, it is making a terrible squeaking sound as the motor winds down after being turned of. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Also the bag is pretty faded and I wondered Of any knows where I could find another. Thanks!

Preston,

My guess is that your Dual Sanitronic 80's front and/or rear bearings have dried up. Order replacement bearings 1155 (back) and 1160 (front).

If a new front bearing plate assembly is needed, order no. 116884S which will also have the newer-style front bearing no. 116073 used on models Classic Omega to the current Avalir II.

Just going on a limb your not super mechanically inclined or at least with vacuums yet. If you take off the outer shell, front fan assembly you can remove the fan. Once that is removed take the screws out of the bearing plate. This will let you put the armature out with all the bearings. Bearings can be repacked and good as new. .
The bearing plate with the side that is behind the fan showing. If you get a nail set tool a 1/2 maybe. If you tap the bearing plate with the punch it will pop out the bearing. The bottom read bearing had the back open. You can just repack and put into place. Make sure the washers in the bottom of the housing are like you left them.
I'd say vaclab has a DS80 refurbish video. It's dry slow and boring. If you look up Kirby mike on you tube his videos they are fun to watch and helpful.

Thank you all for your responses! There is a stripped screw and I don’t have the equipment to remove it. I’m going to call my local vac store tomorrow for an estimate to replace the bearings. (They specialize in Kirby vacs and I have used them before.)
