Hello All and Kirby Experts,
Okay in the 70’s and early 80’s I worked for a shop. I do not remember working on anything newer than a Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80. Back then the big thing for all the older Kirbys was putting on the wide wheels for shag carpeting, front bearings and leaking bags. So you see this 1-CB for me is a modern machine, LOL. Now it does seem to be a good running machine, the motor is great, the brush roll is good and while dull it is not all scratched up. I have been reading up on it and it seems it is improved over the 1-CR, so that is good. It is more powerful than my D50 and D80, so that is also good. I do have questions for you. Seems it has a 1-CR bag, please let me know if I am correct in thinking that. The patch does not say Omega but it looks like the material, cloth, is correct. The bag does have a small hole under the topper which can be fixed easily I believe. I also read that there were several different bags for the 1-CB so that is my reason for the question. The safety switch is cracked but still working and I noticed the replacement pricing is all over the place from $27.00 to $50.00 and they all have Kirby on them, so like what do I do. Now I have never seen this small strange clip on the brush roll holder and it is only on one side, should there be 2 of them? Please let me know the answers. I was going to tear the 1-CB apart as I needed a fan for the D80, but the 1-CB kind of seems too nice to do that plus I ordered and received the new plastic Kirby fan and I don’t think it will be the only D80 on the block with a plastic fan, right. You know I need a green cord for the D80 and when I was at the shop it was just a phone call away, and now extinct. Well I am getting there too.
Thank you for looking and yes I yak a lot.
Pete

Pete,

I have seen many an older Kirby rebuilt with the Amodel fan kit.

Meanwhile, yes, the outer bag on your Omega does indeed actually belong to the Classic 1CR.

Here is my 1974 Omega 1CB with the factory pinstriped bag (see attached picture #1)!

And in picture #2 that I attached, the very first Omegas did have their cloth bag in the same golden yellow as the 1CR bag, but on the front the patch still identified the cleaner as a Classic Omega.

As for getting parts, consider a 'parts unit'. Easy to get one at thrift stores, vac shops that have been around a while, or ebay. For 20-40 bucks or so you will have a whole unit for whatever part you may need.
If you need a green cord, or just a good used switch, call the Kirby Service shop in Plano Texas at Parker and Custer. (972) 758-1210
He has lots of used parts. Also about two dozen old trade-in D80s in boxes just waiting to be restored, as well as Omegas and many others. Fair with prices, willing to ship, and very helpful. Tell him Rob sent ya...

Hello Ben,
You confirmed what I thought, thank you. It just seems odd that someone would replace a bag going backwards instead of forward in model time or use a non Kirby bag. I think going for wand the bag would have been red? It could have been what was in their stock at the time. What ever the reason it is what it is.
Thank you Ben,
Pete

Hi Rob,
I will give them a call. I have been unable to get any good deals here on older Kirbys. I did get some a few years ago but not since.
Thank you,
Pete

Pete,

These days, all the pre-Heritage genuine replacement shake-out bags are a solid black. For the Classic and Classic Omega, they once had the golden yellow cloth bag as a service replacement, but without the patch on the front.

Hello Rob and All
I just talked to James at Kirby Service Shop in Plano Texas, a really nice person. He looked in all his boxed up D80s and none of them had the green #192967 power cord with them. Well I snoozed and lost out on 2 of them on eBay. You know that saying "you snooze, you lose", yep. Not to worry someone will put a new or good used one up on eBay and I might get it if I am not snoozing.
You All have a good week and thank you All for your help and advise,
Pete

Pete,

And if you ever manage to find one of those vintage green cords again (part #192067, not #192967), make sure the one that you want is 32 feet long, not the 24-foot long one as Kirby had made for a short time in the mid 1970s (because of the 1973-74 OPEC oil crisis).

Hi Ben,
I think the keeeeeyboard made me do it. It just couldn't be my brain or fingers that made me type the wrong number, right.
Thank you,
Pete
