Hi KirbyUltimateG

Tell them you need to get the sani-em-tor which is missing here. As far as I know, my new (to me) Classic 111 is in great condition. I also understand that the attatchments were rarely used.

The backstory on this is that I have a G-4, which I bought new in 1994. It, and my Electrolux model LX, were my two daily drivers till 2006 when my partner passed away and everything went into storge in Scaramento, California. In May of 2010 I had a friend pack up my stuff and we drove it to Chesterton, Indiana. In the next few months I'm transfering it here so I can go through dozens of boxes of tools, optional attatchments and VCCC paperwork. Finally, after six and a half years the G-4 will be out of storage and treated to a full restoration, as will all my vacuum cleaners. However, as I no longer have a home of my own, I doubt there will be a display room. But the collection, while in storage, will be only a mile away, and returned to tip top condition. And who knows, the storage unit just might become a display room!

The Kirby Classic III

Is one of my favorite machines. It is one of the few machines that I bought new and still have. Although lightly used, I did send it back to Cleveland for a rebuild and, of course, it came back like new. Converted the cloth bag to a paper bag assembly (they used the Legend II bag assembly) and I put the tools in a later caddy. Up in my bedroom closet and gets run at least every few weeks. A beautiful machine!

Hi Fred, that is one sweet Kirby.

My Yahoo eamail got hacked last night, so if you got anything from me IGNOR IT as it's SPAM. My new email address is Ralextaber @gmail.com.

Good luck in selling Tarantula Arms. The last time I was there I'd just lost Charles (Brookreson) and was really hurting. You posted a picture of me listening to the piano music. A lot of people thought I was sleeping, but actually I was crying very softly, as I was in a lot of emotional pain. You helped me through that without even knowing it. Now I'm fine.

In a few weeks I get my stuff fron storage in the Indiana dunes national park, bring it here to Pa. and will start to restore it. There will be before and after pictures galore!

All my best wishes for the new Tarantula Arms.

Alex Taber.

Gee Guys!

I feel like a pig, because I have three Kirby Classic III's, with all the tools. I love them because they are Red. The story is I bought my Kirby Omega in 1975 I think, anyway I told the dealer If they ever came out with another Red Kirby I would buy one. Well guess who was knocking on my door a month later?? The Kirby guy with a brand spanking new Kirby classic III. The only thing I didn't like about the machine was that weird shaped handle grip. When they came out with the old styly handle grip that was on an Omega but Red.. I bought one and switched it out.I still have that same Kirby with all the tools, but sadly it doesn't run right, I think it is the safety switch on the fan case, I just haven't gotten around to putting another safety switch on it yet. But Last year I bought a rebuilt classic III from the kirby man on Ebay(Kirby needs or something like that) any way it needs bearings i guess because it vibrates a little so I think it needs bearings. So I set it aside an bought another one complete with averything from a seller on Ebay not to long ago, but it needs bearings too. So as soon as I get these Kirby Classic III's all fixed I will put two of them up for sale. So someone else can enjoy them.. If the new kirby coming out next year is Red I will buy two of them too, just because they are red.... Dan

Hi Dan

If you bought it when it first came out, you're the original owner, so you can get a factory rebuild. That was what I was going to do with my G-4 that's in storage, but the cost of going to Indiana, getting the truck and bringing it back here didn't make sense once I saw the one posted on this thread. Yes, I do plan to get my stuff, around May 1st, and yes the G-4 will get a rebuild, but later.

Looks like you and I got our Classic 111's the same week. I'd been in Dubuque, Iowa selling the Omega, then had to go back to my home town of Wallingford, Connecticut. I decided to buy a brand new Kirby Omega, so I called the branch office. As I was a salesman in Dubuque and had not become a trainner yet, I watched the guy demo to me. He was great, and as I was a former salesman for Kirby, knew the close procedure. I went easy on this guy. He wrote down the price, $549.00 Complete, and I opened my checkbook, saying "one Kirby complete, paid in full!" He nearly dropped his demo kit. That's when I told him about working in Dubuque. That Kirby was red because we were celebrating our nations 200th birthday.

Yes, I remember those handles, mine had one too. They had a tendency to break, defect in the plastic I think, and the handles also has a weak spot near the place where you insert the handle pin. Mine didn't have either problem.

I had that Kirby till 1981, when I got into a relationship, and took my stuff with me to Fenton, Michigan. The relationship didn't last, and unfortunately the Kirby Classic 111 wasn't sent back with the rest of my stuff.

Over the years I've taken in a few Classic 111's on trade. I kept one to put in my display, but really miss the original, that's why I'm getting my new one, new to me, that is.

Once I get my stuff from Indiana, all my machines get cleaned, and polished. I'll post before and after pictures of each, and if the storage unit is big enough I might set up a display area. Who knows?

So my Classic 111 should be here in about 10 days. More on that later.

Alex Taber.

It's home! Wish you guys could see the smile on my face

The Kirby Classic 111 got here at 1:15 this afternoon. Already I've given it a good workout, and to my suprise, there's an unopened bottle of Odoriffic. That Kirby did a great job getting the dog hair. Just a light workout today, tomorrow a whole house cleaning.

My Electrolux model LX is in it's closet, sulking, but will get over it. No, I don't plan to abandon it, but the Kirby will be my daily driver for a while.

Thank you Hoover 94,

Alex Taber.

That's so cool!

The Classic III is a great machine. One of my favorites from that era is the Classic Omega. I got lucky a few weeks ago and found one at a second hand shop for $99. Came with the canister attachments minus the hose. All c ompletely original and in awesome condition, so if you are half as happy with your C III, as I am with my Omega, then you are over the moon. Congrats again and have fun!

Joe

Thanks Joe.

I'm also 'over the moon!'I bought a Kirby Classic 111 when they first came out, the first week in fact which was June 18, 1976. In late 1977, I took it to a new relationship, when that fizzled out, my stuff was shipped home, but he kept the Classic 111. I took several in on trade, but that's not the same. Finally, I have my own Classic 111 again!

I see a lot of stories from this former Kirby training manager on the thread. 'Have you ever worked/owned a vacuum store?' Memories galore!

Enjoy the Classic Omega,

Alex Taber

Kirby Classic 3

I must say i love my Kirby Classic3. When i use it i feel it has SOOOOO much POWERI would love to put the bag on it that Fred did that really dresses it up. However i do feel and i may be WRONG i think with the old bag systeam some how it has more power i see no big deal about the cloth bag. Good luck Doug

It should be known the Handi-Waxer originally debuted with model 561 in 1961, and was initially discontinued when the Classic 1CR was replaced by the Classic Omega 1CB in 1973. When the Omega in turn was superseded by the Classic III 2CB in 1976, the Miracle Waxer (originally introduced as the Roll-O-Waxer with the Dual Sanitronic 80) was discontinued and the Handi-Waxer reinstated, but the HW was dropped again in March 1983, during Heritage 1HD sales.
