Kirby Belt Problem

Hello all. I put a new belt on the Omega I just rebuilt. Rather, I ust put two new ones on. When I turn the vac on, the belt seems to slip and rubs, as I smell the burning rubber. COuld this be due to a bad brushroll?

What are some other reasons this maybe happening????

Hi Derek That could be one reason. Take the brush roll off be sure it is turning smothly also i use the older type belt on my Omega or a belt from the G series that has been on the machine for a while. If all else failes take the brush roll off and try one from the many other Kirbys that would have . Hope that helps Doug

If your brush roller is roller totally free wheeling by putting one end on the floor or table and your hand flat on the other end. Then spenning it with your
free hand. Then you roller is good and is most likely the length and thickness of you Kirby Belt. A very black, dark belt that is thick and sold for the use on
the newer Tech Drive machines. Will burn out on your Omega. They need a Gray Belt, or as was stated earlier, one that has been used for a while and stretched
out a bit. Better to keep a supply of the "older and Newer Kirby belts". As they
are available.

Make sure that there ts NO oil or grease on the belt!

Have you checked the belt spindle? check to make sure its free of any grease or residue that may have gotton on it during polishibg etc.

Since the brush roll seems to be revolving with out a problem. I'd check the belt spindle shaft. Its unlikely, but possible the actual spinde shaft metal could be worn or even slightly warped after all these years, therefore causing the belt not to seat properly. The only way to confirm this is to remove the belt lifter plate, so you can actually see what the belt is doing when its turning on the spindle shaft.

You could try cleaning the spindel off with some windex and also try using a knarled brush roll belt. I'm really thinkin its more of a spindel problem, or the brushroll is just set to low for your carpet height?

Derek, do you think it's the Teflon tape that you put on the armature shaft?
