My thoughts on Kirby

I love Kirby and the way they look. I love the way they clean. I have onwed over 27 different models since 2005. I used to be able to carry two up a flight of stairs without flinching.

Fast forward to 2014. I had to have a hip replacement (November 2013) due to a cronic condition called psoriatic arthritis. I've suffered from it since I was 13. I no longer carry any newer than a Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80 by choice. Anything newer than that puts me in great pain. I think you see where this is going.

I love Kirby to death, but I have ever so gradually and sadly had to switch to Aerus (Electrolux). I feel like I have died and gone to Heaven by making this switch!

Kirby definitely needs to step up their game and redesign starting off with making them easier to handle. I've been selling and boxing up my Kirby collection this past year. It's a very sad end of an era for me.

The Kirbys that I'm parting with have already been spoken for.

Kirbys are too heavy and bulky. They do however deep clean carpets like no other. My dad said it best, "Kirby didn't need to add a transmission to make them easier to push. They should have taken weight off to make them easier to handle. That's going backwards." May he rest in peace.

The G Series are definitely over engineered and too heavy. They have been repeating, recoloring and repacking the same model for the past 25 years. Time for an upgrade!

Please note that this is simply my expressed opinion. Please don't hate me if you disagree. I still love Kirby very much, but I just cannot carry them like I once was able to.

disagree with you Chris that you think there great and I can't imagine you for a moment recommending them.

Particularly when you concentrate on what you see as it's negative qualities.


 


I've told you in the past that I don't think there <a name="start_27689.309606"></a>excessively loud,large,expensive etc....for various reasons. The best part with the demo is people get to try before they buy and see how it handles...again in their home. Much better than some TV ad or shopping channel. Yes I know your going to say hard sale tactics etc but that is not the bulk of the time.


 


Beside the point of me posting the link to this video was for "US" people who like Kirby to get a better view of the up coming model.


I've seen various threads on here when something new is coming out that I don't particularly like the look of or see various "issues"with it and don't feel the need to start picking at it.


I just click and move on......

Love Kirby

and would totally own one of these......Unlike most people, I love both Rainbow and Kirby, but I like Rainbow better.

This was fun to watch, but I've never seen Rainbow do anything like this. Maybe they do and I just haven't seen it.

On the contrary, James, I'd sooner have a Kirby than anything bagless. It may seem I'm focusing on the negative, but that's only because a handful of people seem blind to the flaws of the cleaner.

Seems I need to say nothing about the sales tactics. It's well documented.

And as far as I'm aware, there is no US/UK specification on this forum? Last I knew, it was a free for all open discussion and I'm equally as entitled to voice my criticsm of a Kirby as you are to be so insistent that it's the best, most perfect thing ever invented.

That's probably true, although I don't for a minute think that the Sebo is perfect. Of course it has it flaws! The topple over when using the short hose, the weak cable connection on the handle, the auto height adjustment can be temperamental (not a problem I've had on either of ours, but others have reported it here). But whilst it's not perfect, I've found it ticks other boxes that work for me, tipping the scales in its favour. There's pro's and con's to every single vacuum on sale.

I honestly believe that the Kirby is unrivalled for carpet cleaning, but severely lacking in terms of weight, easy of use, noise and price. I also noticed that the Sentria 2 tools felt very cheap and basic. Not what I'd expect from something I invested over £1000 in.

Now, the D80 I got from Paul is a fab vacuum. It really does incorporate all the good things about a Kirby into a smaller, lighter machine. But again, you're stuck with faffy tools. Having to cart around a huge chunk of metal AND a tool caddy just to vacuum up is not something I ever fancy doing.

It's 2014. The "housewife" role doesn't exist anymore and people don't have the same amount of time they used to for housework. The market now calls for cleaners that are good but quick. You can argue the toss all you want, but there's no denying that vacuuming a house with a Kirby takes a lot longer than most, if not all, other uprights. People these days want their house cleaned quickly so they can get on with other things - better things! Kirby need to get with it.

Ive seen worse product launches - though it begs the question in relation to why they used "we will rock you," when changing the verses to reflect the Kirby and yet surely the chorus should have been "we love, we love Kirby!" Or is too obvious?

I like the presentation video and obviously the versatility that Kirby have added. Sadly for my tastes, Kirby uprights in a domestic home are just too big - same with the Miele S7. I've used Kirby uprights in schools and they're brilliant for a large open area, but in an average UK home, there's a reasoon to why owners hang onto their old Hoover Juniors - far smaller, still very capable, large dust capacity and cost effective.

Such beauty and performance, no wonder Kirby is the very best at everything...it just shows in all it does! Even when Kirby introduces a new cleaner, they go the extra mile which causes lower class companies to reel jealously. For they are desirous of such proven technology, perfected in the long crucible of time. I think the foremost problem primarily is: Kirby will always be looked upon as number one, and then everything else will be that, that other vacuum cleaner over there in that dark, long and forgotten corner!

It's also great how versatile it is compared to others on the market. It's good to stand out on the market and not blend in with the others as some would want it too. There's far more upsides than downsides. Their doing lots of things right when you think how long they've been going and they are still one of the biggest if not the biggest high end vacuum companies around.

Interesting video-the salesrep that is providing me with my Avalir went to this.Besides the new Kirby--they now have new "sing-along" songs for Kirby Door knocking van campaigns.The Kirbys lowered from the ceiling-kinda kool.Keep in mind--Are these special "Stunt Kirbys"?Were are trained professional stunt rigging Kirbys-Please don't do that at home!My rep is supposed to call me after Christmas and tell me when the new Avalirs will be available.

I can't agree with you Chris. I can clean my home as quick, if not quicker with my Sentria than when I used to clean it with my Hoover Windtunnel. The Kirby Sentria has better airflow and suction so I don't need to make as many passes as I did with the Windtunnel.


 


I can convert from upright to canister mode in about 30 seconds. I do all my above floor cleaning first, then quickly convert to upright mode for all my carpet. It's no Big Deal!!!

Well James, you know what we all say about the truth....It shall set you free....Kirby free that is!!!

 Most other vacuums can't even hold a candle to THE KIRBY. But, would we really want a plasticVac to attempt such folly? The answer, of course, would be a resounding NOOOOOO!!! Because if it did, it would most probably burst into toxic flames, which would quickly consume the dirt it left on the floor!!!


 


sptyks, I couldn't agree with you more! Why, Kirby attachments are so well designed, that even a child can master it....Pure Kirb-plicity at its best!

I think that if kirby wanted to totally have a machine for everyone that they should make the typical larger second gen, ( classic,tradition,heritage) G3 sized vacuums like they have been and also carry a non tech drive updated dual sanitronic sized vacuum that both have great air flow and carpet cleaning so larger homes could have a kirby and smaller home and homes with people that can't use a larger kirby could have a smaller version. Anyone else think that could be a beneficial move from kirby?

Machine nice / function attendants: get some straighjackets

Nice video of the machine details.
Looks way nicer than I expected it to be, looks a tad less overhauled or "totally reworked" than announced.

But I am not referring to the machine, I mean the video of the announcement meeting: Gives me the creeps.
I totally agree with Chris: Overly loud, excessive and "...like a rock concert" etc.
Even if it IS an internal sales rep congregation, it still is WAAAAAY over the top.

If this was shown to me (let's say on a first day after a job interview), I would probably call the cops to check them all for drugs or mass-order some couple of hundreds of straitjackets.

Stan's answer "mean streak... /not anything WE could do to ...change HIS attitude" tells me the rest: He does not directly talk to Chris, but turns sideways to fellow fans and believers. Like: Here that is us, the "family", there the so-called "outer world /them" (and therefor "unknowing laymen" probably...).
(which has nothing to do with Stan or Chris of course, I am just referring to that pattern of communication).

My point about the Kirby release party:
This hypertensional yeehaah-whoaah frenzy, the whole meeting, the vacuums coming down from the ceiling like Tom Cruise on a safety rope...
THAT is supposed to come from company? No way.
I cannot take anything of it seriously at all.

Even for the most important business meetings and best technical progress conveivable, I might even imagine some minutes of applause and praising words on the microphone - but not like this here.

What I see (and even worse: must hear!) in this video leaves me speechless.
What stuff ARE they on?

I'm sorry, I thought we were all talking about these peoples' bread and butter, you know, their livelihood! I think if anybody with an inkling of common rational, or is that being too lucid, would believe they had better get excited about it and fast, or as the song goes,  " Hit the road jack...don't you come back no more, no more, no more!"  And they all go crying to the poor house together, as some should suppose, of course, I'm just postulating...but just maybe.

I have always thought that! They really should make a smaller 500 series remake. I think that something like that would do really well.

As for the video, why not go a little bit over the top? They make some of the best vacuums available today AND a company only has one 100th anniversary. To me, it seems like a great excuse to have a swanky party/product release. Product releases don't always have to be speeches & slide shows.
