Kirby 516 Rear Bearing - Shield?

Is it supposed to have a shield? The front says Made In USA, and then tiny numbers I can't read....

I haven't cleaned it yet, but it turns well. Other newer vacs have bearing shields?

Shields are necessary to keep the dirt out.

Most of these bearing have the same size:

Picture is a sealed bearing.
2RS style bearing (double seal) for longevity.
This is a sealed beared vs shielded. A sealed bearing will hold up better in a dirty environment.

A common size is the 608 bearing which is 8mm Bore, 22mm OD, and 7mm Width

So 608 2RS is sealed, and 608 ZZ is shielded.

So it's likely that this bearing once had a shield....I should probably get a new one. Thanks.

If it's any help the front bearing is a 87500 and the rear bearing is a 87007.

The old rear bearings were enclosed on the side facing the commutator and open on the other side. Then there was a grease shield up against the open side of the bearing and a washer with spring fingers that went in the housing.
