I have a problem with removing the metal fan on my Kirby 510. (I've had this problem with the Heritages too, but because the fan is plastic I can grip the armature by putting vice grips carefully! on the center of the fan and then twisting off the belt shaft.) With my 510, the metal fan is rotating in one direction, while the armature and the belt shaft turn together in the opposite direction. I can't find a way to secure (lock) the armature. So I gave up. But the inside of the motor casing really needs a clean out - I tried compressed air, but due to rounded rear of the 510 case, all the dust collected near the rear bearing and is stuck there. I need to get the fan off and the armature out for a proper cleaning. Any suggestions? I've included a pic of my 510 in case any one is interested...
