Everyone, I'd appreciate a bit of advice concerning my Classic 1-CR.

The motor begins to run very warm to the touch after 5-6 minutes.

I had it serviced by an authorized Kirby center. They worked on bearings, replaced the back bearings, lubricated, and replaced the fan. It still is running hot.

I'm calling the Kirby rebuild department on Monday, but in the meantime, is this an armature or field going bad, or is it possible that the cardboard baffle under the motor shell that directs the cooling fan air over the motor rather than around it is missing?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
J

J,

You may have one or more of the following problems associated with your machine:
SYMPTOMS
(1) Defective armature
(2) Defective field
(3) Blocked vent parts in shell housing

REMEDIES
(1) Check armature; replace with part no. 114969.
(2) Check field; replace with part no. 103969.
(3) Remove dirt or foreign matter.

Hope these work for you,

Ben

Thanks! It's definitely not a blocked vent. What about the baffle thing in the motor housing? I can still get either an armature or field?

My experience has been

When a Kirby runs hot like that, it's usually the field coil that is bad. To make it worse, when the field goes, it usually takes the armature with it. The parts are still available, and I personally would replace both.
