Kenmore has some new uprights - none of which look like they are from Panasonic. The first is this Budget Bagged Upright at $59.99 (they also have a silver $99 model). The second is a similar machine for $59.99 but it is bagless & has again, a silver $99 counterpart. Finally, we have the brand new Kenmore Elite Bagged Upright with DirectDrive Technology. This machine reminds me of a Miele and is very sleek in it's appearance at $350.00

I posted on these in the last thread about new Kenmore vacuums. However I did not here anything about the new Kenmore Elite. I'm not surprised they named it that way, as we have Kenmore Elite washers, dryers, dishwashers, and fridges. I'm not sure if we are getting this model at my store. Looks interesting though.

I guess these uprights are to go with the new bagless canisters. Haven't seen any at my store yet. To me that Kenmore Elite has an odd shape to it. Strange it doesn't have a pedal style height adjustment like the Intuitions have. Those blue bagged and bagless uprights look like they might be made by Eureka - just a guess. The attachments are vaguely Panasonic though.

The blue green Intuition is marked down to $229 & they didn't have any of the new Elite uprights. I did notice on the bagless PN Canisters they are giving them numbers 600 Series for the full sized model and 200 series for the cheap one. Also, even if that Elite is made by Panasonic - it is a change of pace because usually the wheels for Panasonic-for-Kenmore uprights are on the undercarriage of the main body, instead of riding on the outside as is the case with these machines. The Elite model should have more features IMO. It doesn't have the pedal height adjustment the Intuitions do, just that knob that one must bend over to adjust. None of Kenmore's current uprights have the features that the Progressives of a few years ago had. Gentle Sweep agitation setting for delicate items. Three power levels that could be manually set as well as the Inteliclean setting that would vary the suction automatically based on how much dirt was picked up. I think the Elite model should have these features if it's an Elite.

As far as the manufacturers, I'd say based on the Elite model's reset button and attachments, it is likely made by Panasonic. It is odd that the full size bagless canister model starts with 600. It seems to be made by Panasonic, as it has a Cen-Tec powerhead and Panasonic attachments and wands. All the current Kenmore canister model numbers still start with 116.

The model number on the canisters starts with 116, but on the dust cup & on the power head of the smaller one, they are assigned numbers of 200 and 600 series. The Full Size Bagless is based off of a Panasonic design - see here: http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/MC-CL935


 


The more I look at the newer budget uprights the more I see TTI influence on them, particularly the place where the motor sits. This is the same TTI-motor type pack seen on a good number of the Hoover and Dirt Devil bagless machines.

Well, we know that a good number of bagless (and bagged) Kenmore uprights were indeed Dirt Devil's. Saw the Kenmore version of the Dirt Devil "Reaction" just this past weekend at a thrift shop. I know LG made a bagless Kenmore upright, as did Samsung. I too am curious as to the manufacturer of these new Kenmore uprights. I did order the Panasonic-built Kenmore bagless canister to test out - should be here tomorrow. Sure do hope I like it.

Did you order the full sized one or that smaller dinky one?

I got the big one. It was on sale for $299 when I ordered it on Friday, but went down $30 on Monday. I called Sears and they refunded the $30 - apparently they have a price match guarantee. The Kenmore version has the electric mini power head, the Panasonic (which costs $329) has a turbo mini power head. The Kenmore was the better buy.

Well, well... the blue bagged and budget bagless blue one are both TTI. We have had them in the UK and slightly restyled with not as good handles. The bagged one is very similar to the Argos Value bagged upright I once had (Vax).

The high efficiency cyclones are absolutely designed correctly. The shroud is too, and it's removable so the entire cyclone assembly can get a bath whenever I want to clean it. Excellent copy of a Dyson's cyclones. And for the low price of $269. Who knew?
