Here is the machine that I picked up a few weeks ago. Its power nozzle has to be one of the cleanest that I have encountered, with plenty of life left on the brush roll. If anyone is interested, shoot me an offer; I need to downsize!

Gosh Mike, you have the greatest luck, just as I seem to occasionally.

Downsizing, eh? Well, I really like that Whispertone, what with all the nozzles and bags and all...what else are you considering downsizing?

My usual summertime workload at the theatre has really stolen away my free time...I haven't been to see Pete in Sarnia in months. But now that a fourth show has opened I have a few Sunday/Monday/Tuesday breaks coming up. I've been talking to him about coming over next weekend or Labor Day...

Maybe it's time we all met up in Sarnia for an Ontario micromeet?

I'm sure you have enough green Lux 89s to last a lifetime but don't hesitate to mention any Can or Am Electrolux models/hoses/accessories or other vacuum brands that come to mind - I may have what you need in the overflow hoard...er...collection extras pile.

That Kenmore somewhat resembles this Whirlpool. Any relation, or just coincidence?

I do wonder why only the back-end of the Whirlpool is shown in the ad -- even the tiny spot illustrations. I'm curious to know if its 'business end' looks a lot like the Kenmore.

whirlpool built kenmore canisters untill they switched to the panasonic sourced vacs

neat add

Hey Joe, I think the way the corporate transition worked was like this: Kenmore vacs were originally made by Whirlpool since the 1950's at least (not sure if they were doing it earlier). Then, sometime in the 1980's, Matsushita of Japan (the parent company of Panasonic) bought the Whirlpool vacuum plant in Tennessee, and that's how the Sears Kenmore floor care line transitioned from Whirlpool to Panasonic. These North American-made Kenmores (and similar Panasonics) are not sold by Panasonic in Japan, nor anywhere else in the world. In essence, they have retained the uniqueness that Whirlpool gave them.

Mike, I am also interested in the Kenmore. Email me if it's still available.

The Whirlpool vacuum factory is/ was in the Bluegrass of Kentucky, not Tennessee. I used to drive by it regularly and witnessed the name change on the building from Whirlpool to Matsushita. I haven't been by there in years so don't know if the factory is still in operation.

Thanks for that correction, John.

I think Matsushita closed the American factory a few years ago, because all the Kenmores and North American Panasonics are now built in Mexico. But I do remember ordering a replacement part (red bag holder) for my Kenmore Progressive canister in 2002, and the part came in a Whirlpool bag from Kentucky!

This machine was at a rather pricey thrift shop,

so I had to pay $45 for it, and the bags were $25. I'd like to recoup that, if possible. Having not seen one of these before, deciding on a price is a bit of a challenge.

I see this machine has migrated to an ebay listing...hmmmm. I was hoping it had ended up in the hands of one of our members, after it was offered for bids here.

Thats the way things work.

Sometimes! Sometimes people get dollar signs in their eyes!

I sent !

An e-mail to this individual when this first came up,before any comments were made, I recieved a reply that it was available, I replied just tell me how much, a few days later I recieved a e-mail that since he had been"accosted" by another collector,he was going to put it on e-bay, I was raised that your word was your bond, dont tell someone something and then back out. But it is over and done with now and I dont have the cash to compete with the e-bay bidders. Hans

Well Mike, hopefully you like money more than friends, as doing this kind of thing will get a lot money from some of these rich eBay buyers, but it is also extremely off putting to most of us and wont make people like you very much.

Just an FYI...

Could you all just back away from the keyboards for a moment

...take a few calming breaths and read...and comprehend...in sequential order, the flow and original intent of this thread...from the beginning without skipping over any one word or phrase, please.

No, the Kenmore has NOT 'just been sold on eBay'. The single bid is at $9.99, there IS a reserve but there is no 'Buy It Now' option. Therefore, the auction listing has 6 more days to run.

Had this been observed and reported accurately there would have been no reason to badmouth Micheal, a new forum member, btw, without just cause either here in the thread or through private emails.

Full disclosure...I myself emailed Micheal within hours of his first posting about the find of the Whispertone on August 15 (as indicated by my posting & picture as response #2 above), making a private offer of $45 and personal pick-up (Remember this is before we were informed of his costs and were assuming it to be chance bargain find.) In that same friendly email I mentioned how we should all have a mini-meet soon in Sarnia, so I can hardly imagine that I am the one collector accussed of 'accosting' him via email. I suspect that Hans's email was the second one he had recieved in a timely 'jump-on-it' fashion.
I made no further offer as I assumed someone else would have met Micheal's match in the time it took for me to have any free time to continue email negotiations.

What the Freezin' Fork have you other boys been up to, anyway?

A person, getting no concrete or firm fast reasonable offers for his machine when he has suggested his costs to re-coup, certainly has the right to try his luck on eBay if the stated goal is to quickly downsize the collection hoard ... my uninformed but knowledgeable estimated early offer notwithstanding which would have eliminated the hassle of packaging and shipping costs for Mike aka hillbilly_keith, whether from Windsor Ontario or across the bridge/tunnel in Romulus MI.

Whatever the eventual outcome and disposition of this lovely Kenmore there are a few significant lessons to be learned here about jumping the gun to judgement.

Dave

If!!!

I were second, then why did I get an email saying it was available, no offense to anyone, but I was not raised to do business like that! Hans
