Kenmore twin fan curbside rescue

It was a damp and cold night and I spotted her all wet from the dew,in a box from her replacement,even had the attachments adaptor and hose,I cleaned a few hairs off the brushroll,replaced the belt,let the outer bag dry,put a new paper bag in and she's good as new, a great carpet groomer.

Thanks Bill, I guess some people have more money than sense,I collect bags and belts for machines I don't even have,so that wasn't a problem, I just wiped it off and tested a small spot with Mothers Polish,so it still needs a beauty treatment.

My brother and ex-sis-in-law got one of those for a wedding present. Theirs was a blue and white one and was from what I remember, quite a screamer.

My brother commented he was glad to let the ex keep it when she moved out. Not to say your's wasn't a good find, she was just a bad wife and a vacuum was a cheap go-away-get-out-of-my-life token.

Yes Harley, It is a screamer,much like my Hoover Concepts,I wish all vacs were as quiet as a Lux or FQ, but when you add the power nozzle they are as noisy.

And who knew we could categorize a whole community of vacs as "screamers"? It's so true! As much as I loved my parents' old basic Eureka Bravo "sans on-board tools" (excellent carpet cleaner), it was a real screamer too! Sounded like a jet engine on a 747........

Lux especially. I have a Diamond Jubilee that is a great machine, very powerful, but the PN-5 makes it very noisy. My Model L has both a PN-1 and a PN-2; both are noisy. My daily driver, the TriStar CXL, has a very quiet PN that is a fantastic groomer, plus the canister's suction makes it clean very thoroughly. I recently got a Bissell ProHeat, and most new Bissell owners with pets end up pulling incredible amounts of pet hair out of their carpet the first time they use the machine. I got almost none, and my cat, Tony is a shedder dee-luxe.

So, it is possible to make a PN that cleans properly, yet doesn't sound like it's diesel-powered.

My Diamond Jubilee is a screamer too.

We had the Singer version of this Kenmore when I was growing up. I really love it... from the handle position being the power switch to the weird height knob to the huge headlight... a very cool vacuum. And, that IS a great color. Awesome find!

Just curious... what was the vacuum they were getting to replace this one with?

My Diamond Jubilee is not all that loud when it's used for straight suction. It's louder than a 1205 or a G, but it's not all that bad, and it's powerful enough to suck the sheetrock off the studs. Only when you use the PN with it does it get really loud; Lux never could make quiet PN's. My PN-5 has new brushroll bearings, brushroll, and belt. Still noisy. It has to be their design.

On the other hand, my TriStar's PN got very quiet when I replaced all the wear parts in it. It has a nice, well-mannered hushed sound like you'd expect from a vac that was that expensive new. And the canister has the same suction that the Diamond Jubilee does.

I wouldn't classify all vacuums as screamers

My Kirbys though louder than some, have a pleasant low pitch rumble, you know like a 440 Hemi with glass packs.

My Riccar Supralite, however, is high pitched and makes the dog bark when I use it. So to clairfy the twin fan was more of a high-pitched scream, much like my ex-sis-in-law. Hence, this was why my brother was glad to see both leave at the same time.

A Lux has almost a pleasant whisper quality about it, Ditto for FQ, Air-Way and The Riccar Cans.

The new Eureka, Bissell and Hoovers all tend to make the dog bark and leave the room, high pitched screamers.

are more whinners than screamers. Eureka sourced power nozzles, like used to be on the Rainbows are grumbly, but not unplesant.

I wonder if it's just the added effect of another motor running at the same time, and their sound signature amplifies each other?

OMG, I had that EXACT SAME Kenmore Twin Fan as a Kid, the EXACT SAME Kenmore, Color and all, so needless to say Mark, I'm both Jealous and Upset about you finding that one, as I have been looking for another for MANY Years now, MANY Years, then you happen to find this one, so I dunno, I'm kinda Depressed about it now you know. What's worse, is mine was in MINT CONDITION, but because of a Broken Belt and Worn Brush-Roll, my Mom threw mine away when I was at a Friend's House, so you know how that is. She threw my Purple Kenmore away and a Self-Propelled Kenmore Twin Fan "Magi-Cord" away, just because the Self-Propelled only wanted to work in Forward, so needless to say, I've never Forgiven her for that, as I LOVED those two Kenmore's of mine the BEST, VERY BEST Vacuum's I EVER had and seeing this one you found here now, just brought back all that Anger towards my Mom you know.


It's not that I'm not Happy for you Mark, it's just that I've been looking for this EXACT SAME Kenmore Twin Fan here for SOOO LONG, then all of a sudden, you happen to find the VERY SAME Kenmore I use to have, or at least one EXACTLY like it that is... Why couldn't I have been the one to have found it, especially when you weren't even looking for it or anything you know...? :/


Kenmore and Singer Twin Fans are honestly my FAVORITE Vacuums, as I was SURROUNDED by them as a Kid, unfortunately, I only have two now, a Kenmore sorta like this one here, but White and Gray, which has some problems, so I can't use it much and the Singer I have, well, is sorta UGLY, lol, so I'm looking to Trade it off maybe, I dunno, we'll see...?


Here is a Photo of the Kenmore I have now, but it doesn't Run very well, like I said, so I don't use it much, which makes me want this Purple one you found here even more-

Lux Powernozzles

Sandy, Your right about the lux PN's,The more plastic they used on the later ones made them louder,On my L-shaped one,I had to shim the brushroll end with a dime just to quiet the vibration,I like the PN1 the best,it has the metal base and since the handle doesen't have an upright position you can put more pressure on it and it seems to groom the carpet better,I still have one that I've had for about 20 years,I've used it on 2 1205's and an Olympia,it has a broken belt ,but I only put one on it in all those years.

Bobby, This one has the two speed switch in the handle,Most all of these vacs had the handle position switch, the replacement was probably of the bagless variety,it was early morning and still dark,so I couldn't see the box too good, but I can always spot a vacuum handle.

Harley, I know what you mean about the rumble of a Kirby, When it's making that sound you know it's adjusted properly and doing it's job,My Heritage Two small head model and my G3 both have a great rumble to them on all my carpets,the G3 seems to adjust better to bare floors.

Kenmore twin fan curbside rescue....

What a wonderful find. This was one of the very last of the Singer built Kenmores hailing from around 1992-93 or so. IT was no longer the TOL machine as they were heavily touting the larger Panasonic based WisperTone uprights, and their newer clean air, with TOB (tools on board) products then, but there I believe was still three models available for purchse for people who still liked them.

One was the bare bones model all white with a blue bag, single speed machine turned on by the old handle operated switch, no headlight short 16 ft. cord, and I believe a fixed height adjustment and the low early Twin Fan hood. The next one was in a dark blue same low hood design that was a single speed with headlight although all their machines had the smoked headlight lenses by then that had them, five position dial-a-knob, and a longer maybe 20 ft. cord.

Then there was this model which you have found that was The TOL two speeder, handle mounted switch, which I believe was a decision made becasue people beatched as did Consumer Reports about the momentary handle swuitch turning on and off when you maybe did not want it to do so while cleaning. It also used the taller and newer motor hood, with the smoked wraparound headlight, and I believe either a 25 of 30 ft, cord with some having a quick release upper cord hook. i see yours does not have it tho.... but I do remember the purple one being the TOL then.

Excellent find. And as Jeff parker used to say , these singers did NOT make the choir in pleasing vacuum sounds ....
