Every Lux PN I've ever used - even those rebuilt with all-new wearing parts - has had a sound that is part rattle, part buzz, part whirr. I've known Lux techs to recommend shimming the brushroll bearings to get a PN quieter. I really love the sound of my TriStar's PN; it's very hushed, yet the carpet stands the hell up once it has been gone over with the TriStar.

You people are getting me very spoiled - I remember when I thought that a Lux was the very nicest canister you could buy, LOL!

A quiet power nozzle is possible like the Hibbert one on my Samsung vac. It's no bigger than the turbo nozzle on the new Hoover Connie and it's for sake of argument silent. Quieter than the Connies turbo nozzle. Dave and Chad can back me up on that. Plus it works.

Dave and Chad can back me up on that.

YEs,

I was VERY impressed on the powerhead that your Samsung has. As I stated before we "used" to sell these a while back and they used a much larger head that reminded me of the miscengenation between a Eureka RotoMatic and a Filter Queen powernozzle. The ones we sold had a headlight too.

Yours was definitly a deal, as the price we used to ask for them I though a rip.... But that's all in MSRP's and profits and so forth. And for what they were worth, there were much worse options to choose from back then.

Kenmore model info

Thanks Chad for the info, I have a Wispertone Upright downstairs in the garage,It has the two motor system,I brought it up and tried it once and it didn't seem to groom the carpets well, I was using my Sharp alot then,It has the wider chrome agitator and electronic controls with the extra power button, so that Kenmore just didn't impress me,plus it had a musty smell from being in a friends damp garage,so back down it went. I had the Duo-Power green upright around 1979,I wish I still had that one, then my parents had the blue version,I don't think it was called a Duo-Power though, I can't remember what hard case models Sears offered

oops

Hit the post button instead of preview, meant to say I can't remember what hardcase models they offered between the Whirlpool design and the Panasonic,or was there a gap there?

My Miele plus has a pretty darn quiet power nozzle too. As does the Vorwerk upright.

Swiveltop... I forgot that some of them had the power switch on the handle instead of AS the handle! I too can spot a vacuum handle from a mile away. When I used to have time to go to yard sales, I would drive until I spotted one. No clothes and dusty precious moments figures for me thanks!

Tri Star

Sandy, Now I want a Tri Star, LOL. Here is my Lux Olympia, it was pretty nice when I found it so I detailed it and resprayed the powernozzle, It replaced one that I used daily for 12 years, the switch was stuck on and the leaky woven hose was wrapped with duct tape, still works, deserves a restoration one day. Now that the "new" one is all detailed I haven't used it.

A TriStar is a very nice machine. There are some areas in which a Lux is a little nicer, though. Mainly, it's the hose and tool system. A real Lux hose has a suction adjustment, which the TriStar does not have, although the upholstery attachment on a TriStar does have a little detachable grille to keep curtains, etc. from being sucked into the tool. You remove the grille to vacuum upholstery with full suction.

Another area is the floor/rug tool system. The Lux system, with the flip-over tool, is very easy to use. A TriStar has two separate tools, not quite as convenient, although the TriStar tools' quality (and design!) is still straight out of 1954 - very high indeed. The Lux floor/rug tool has a lower profile, and can get under furniture that the TriStar cannot.

Pluses for the TriStar include its quadruple filtration system (cloth bag, paper bag, motor filter and afterfilter), and its quiet, "expensive" sound. Next to most vacs, a TriStar sounds like a BMW compared to an old Pinto. I can tell you that when I use the TriStar, I don't see dust again nearly as fast as I do with a Lux, or any other non-HEPA vacuum, for that matter.

Hey Mark!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I just read your email and will Reply to it ASAP, but I have to wait till my Desktop PC Restarts and all, cuz well, it's not working right at this time, kinda SLOW, so I'm using my Wii AGAIN, lol and I can't really Type much with it in email, so give me a few Hours and then look for an email from me back, once I'm back on my Desktop and all, which HOPEFULLY, won't take as long as I think, lol!

Plus, it's like you read in that other Topic, Sam's Thread I believe, I am having MAJOR PC and email Issues, so if you got 4 emails from me, that's why, lol, I mean, I didn't think they were going through, but I'm GLAD you got yours and Replied back, talk to you later and THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

BTW...

While I'm here Mark, you told me you have another Twin Fan Kenmore IDENTICAL to this one and although I think I've seen it before, would you mind at all Posting a Photo of it for me...? ;) I'm sure it looks EXACTLY like this one here, but you know how it is, I kinda want to see a Photo of it anyway, if you have the time to take a Photo, cuz well, it's that whole curiosity thing, lol!

I'll tell yah Mark, when I found out, that my Mom threw out my Purple Kenmore, I never thought I'd see another EXACTLY the SAME, let alone two of them and in the same House even, lol!

THANKS again!

Making it a weekend project to sort & separate into new locations, to clear up main floor space...because there were so many uprights in the piano room I couldn't get to the pianos to play rolls.

Set up a Singer/Kenmore/Eureka stall in the basement and all the Hoovers are lining up in the attic space with the Sunbeams.

For now, these are my Kenmore 2 speed and the Sunbeam Psycobag twinfans. The Singer was a gift from xraytech Sam Geresti to go with Elphaba, the Challenged Sunbeam. Thanks Sam - Love the carpet height mechanism that rotates both axles in a way that rocks & tilts the vacuum, rather than simply lifting one axle. While both look alike up top they are quite different underneath the roll plate. Neato. I'm on the lookout for a headlight lens...

Olympia

Thanks Sandy, I also have a model L that cleaned up really nice,I was a little confused about the models for a while,I thought it was older than my E or G, then learned it is the economy model sold alongside the 1205,great suction, very simple,I had some pics on my computer but lost at the moment, thanks for the Tri Star info,The fabric tool has to be better than the Lux's,are the wands the same so you can use the Lux tools, I have favorite tools from each machine so if it fits I use it.

Sumbeam

Hi Dave, That looks like a real heavy duty twin fan upright,I remember that 70's mod bag on the Kenmores of that era, That hood looks unique,it is taller like the latter one but but has the casting on the metal base like the first low hood models, rare find.

Swiveltop:

Lux tools won't work on a TriStar. The reason is that TriStar uses a lock button system on its wands and tools. While you can get a Lux tool onto a TriStar wand, the wand's button will jam inside the neck of the Lux tool, making it difficult to remove. The problem is particularly bad with the Lux floor/rug tool.

Now if you go back to when TriStars were called Compact, then you have wands that don't have lock buttons, and Lux tools would work fine there. The trade-off would be that not many Compacts had PNs, or power ports for a PN. Some do, though, so you might luck up on one with a PN port (Aeoliandave recently found one, I think, so they're still out there) and could have a "custom" vac with the combination of tools you want.

Mark...

Hey, I emailed you back like I said I would, but haven't heard back from you yet, in fact, I haven't seen you Online lately at all, so I figured that you are busy now or something...? Anyway, I'm going to email you again today, after I do a few Post here or something, so as soon as you read my email, Reply back ASAP and we'll talk again Buddy!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

James

I will e-mail back in a few minutes,It has been a busy week,I have the Washer bug also,so thanks to Craigslist I found a near mint 80's Maytag washer for $10.00,It wouldn't agitate so I spent the next day solving that problem, Also a vintage GE dryer, picked up both in the same town, about an hour and a half round trip, but from two different people on two different days.
