Kenmore/Eureka?!?!

They diddn't....

Eureka never made "vacuums" for Sears. They ended up selling Eureka vacuum's in the late 1980's when they introduced their newly fashioned "Brand Central" appliance department.

Eureka "did", however make vacuum's for Penny's under the Penncrest and later just the J.C. Penney label. However, Eureka was best known for their manufacturing the "Wards Signature" line of vacuum cleaners made for Montgomery Wards from about 1960 onwards until M-W was no longer with us.

Of course in later years of Ward's existence they sold the comparative "Eureka" model right next to the Eureka built M-W model. This of course came into effect when Ward's instituted their "Electric Avenue" Appliance department to combat Sears with their "Brand Central" department. Wards, if memory serves me correct debuted their Electric Avenue concept in 1984-85.

The EHEEEbaeee machine is a re badged Eureka for MW's. I remember that model VERY well, as I do most of what Wards had from about 1982 until they closed. I was there nearly every weekend without fail. Most likely, the seller, as usual has very little, or limited knowledge as to what he or she is selling, and just assumes something to make thier listing seem ore important.

That's my three cents....

Actually Chad......

If you look at the 1951 Consumer Report article (or is it the 1954 article) on this web site they show a Eureka and a Wards upright right next to each other and it is plain to see that the Wards upright is a kissin' cousin to the Eureka

P.S I was sorry to hear about your Linclon dude....but better the Linclon getting bashed up than you getting bashed up.

Actually this could very well be a Kenmore labeled machine. For a very short time, Eureka made this canister for Sears. I've seen the owners manual for it, but have never seen the machine. This is a rare piece.

Grabbed it!

According to what R.J. told me, these machines did exist as catalog-exclusive "Brand Central" models sold back in the 80's. At first I thought it was a Wards, but I checked my catalogs and none of the canisters look like this. Too strange. I was going to pass it up at first, but then I knew I would end up kicking myself because it would probably be the last one I saw on eBay. Just like that 24" Sanitaire two-in-one that I could have easily cleaned up. I'll never make that mistake again.

Pat, thanks for the kind comments on the old Town Car. It sucks, but now it rests in my brothers barn awaiting restoration/ repair as now He wants to keep our grandfathers old car.

I also stand corrected on may dates of Eureka/Wards production....Yes Eureka did make vacuum's for Wards longer than what I stated. Must be from the new leather smell of my "newer" 2000 Grand Marquis I ended up with.

Must agree tho...it was better in all stretches of the imagination that the old Towny got "banged up", rather than myself. It goes to show you that bigger cars "can" be safer. If that wasn't the case SUV's wouldn't exist, nor would the big rear drivers from Ford.

Andy, I must say that for the MANY years that I lurked at the Sears in Lansing Michigan which is one of the largest and one of the oldest in the country still in it's same location, I NEVER saw a Kenmore badged Eureka ever. While it's true that they sold Eurekas thru their "Brand Central" I never remember any of them with the Sears or Kenmore lable on them.

However, becasue you may have proof, I stand down. No one on here is smarter than the other. I simply stated that I never saw one, and from my experience, which I know to be very long and storied..I never saw this machine you speak of. I just think that the seller didn't know what he was selling.

Also, it was in the same colour scheme that Eureka used during the mid to late 1980's for their Wards built products. If it was truly badged either "Kenmore" or "Sears" in any way..I will hang my head in shame and admit I was wrong and stupid. As a grown person....I can admit that I'm wrong, and take the blame when my statements go sour.

So whomever won this "Eurekamore" please post pictures so I can rest knowing that I'm truly a idiot?

Chad
