Just say what your favorite vacuum cleaner is. It can be in your collection or out.
My personal favorite is near unattainable: the kenmore imperials from 1939. I love the look of the dual headlights.

I would have to say my favorite vacuum cleaner is the Kirby model C. Having said that I would love to find the very rare Kirby Utility hand vac. I'm fortunate to have a Kenmore Imperial (Bug eye) in my collection. The picture of the Kirby Utility is from the collection of James Brown.

For me ,it's a hard call

I'll just say my Kirby 561 for sentimental reasons. I know it's entire history. It spent the first 42 years as a vacation home vacuum cleaner on Catalina Island. The floors were made of beechwood that were partially covered with oriental area rugs. The owner who was a book publisher would only spend a few weeks a year at the house so the Kirby seemed almost new when it was given to me by family. I met him about 2 years before he passed away.

It's not by far the best cleaner I have, but of all my 500 series Kirby's the aluminum castings are the best in fit and finish. The exhaust port on the fan housing has a mirror like bevel cut where the hose hooks up and the vents also have the cleanest cuts. It seems like it was assembled by an employee who intended to buy this machine for themself as everything seems hand picked for perfection. Sorry for the long answer.

Sentimentally: Kirby 514. Was my first vintage vacuum.

Out of my collection: Hard to tell, but pretty much all of the obscure ones pre 1930.

My 1984 Dyson Cyclon 1000. There can't be more than 5 left in this world. There were more model O Hoovers made than this machine. Mine is new. James Dyson has a new one. That's probably all the new ones that exist.

Sentimental memory . . .

The first vacuum I bought for myself was a Hoover Convertible, Model 35, the one in an attractive shade of yellow. I believe they called the color Venetian Gold. I bought it in 1966 when I was a freshman in college. I loved that vacuum because it was a Hoover, was attractive to look at, ran and cleaned like a champ, and it was mine. This model is a sentimental favorite, and I lost it in 1968 when, unfortunately, our home was destroyed in a fire. Of all the vacuums I've had, that Hoover is a fond memory.

My favorite vintage vacuum is the Hoover model 28 for sentimental reasons. As a small child, I would always visit my local vacuum store and ask how much the salesman there would want for the Hoover model 28. "Its not for sale!" He would always say, when he said this, I always got disappointed. The salesman was eventually transferred to another store because the pay was not enough to survive on so the repair technician took ownership of the store. I asked the repair technician how much he would want for the model 28 and he said $100 so I bought it. I also like the Kirby model C, would anyone be willing to sell me theirs?

I have a few favorites. All original belt cap 505. Royal 235 for sentimental reasons. DS80 and compact c9.
The vacuum I want is a green janitronic. I have a super sweep but I want the janitronic.

I have several favorites. Electro-Hygiene, Royal (except for the late model screamers!), or anything else made by Royal, Kirbys built before the G-series, most Electrolux models, especially the XII, XXX, and G, and most Hoovers, upright, tank, and canister, up through the 70's.

Wow. This is surprisingly difficult as there are so many variables and any decision is colored by more than a touch of sentimentality. In terms of machines I no longer have, my orange late '70s vintage Eureka Princess tops the list. It was the first canister vacuum I ever used that had a power nozzle and I really wish I still had it. Of the ones presently in my collection, I have to divide it between uprights and canisters. For uprights, the nod goes to any of my Electrolux twin motor uprights. They're just such versatile, convenient and powerful machines. That said, honorable mention has to go to my Kirby Heritage that I rebuilt last year. I just put a lot of work (and perhaps too much money) into it to make it the way I wanted it to be. Canisters are a little more difficult and this is where sentimentality comes in. I'd have to pick one of my Electrolux 1205s, even though I have a couple of newer, more powerful 'Lux canisters in my collection. The question then falls to which power nozzle I would pair with it and that's an easier question. A shiny PN2 would carry the day.

my favorite cleaners

I don't have one cleaner in particular that is my favorite. I really like all of the cleaners in my collection. But certain ones do stand out. I love my central vacuum units, they are very powerful and if you connect a hose directly to them you have a super duper powerful hose cleaner. I can clean my entire apartment with a 50 foot hose connected to any of them. When it comes to uprights, I only have one and even though I'm not much of an upright person, I really like my Sebo Felix. When it comes to my canisters, I really like the Eureka canned ham vibrabeat and compact C6, I absolutely love the sound of the Lamb Electric motor in those, it's a very pleasant sound. I also really like my Electrolux 1205, the motor in that sounds very similar to the Lamb Electric motor that I just mentioned. These are not the most powerful canisters in my collection but I really like the motor sound on them.

I had the chance of trying a filter queen canister whit a pn and one whit out was surprise how quiet it was i do like the hoover celebrity vacuum series too ,.
