As the title states, ive been thinking about it. Ive wanted an oreck for a while but i dont really want to get a new one. My local oreck clean home center is offering refurbished used orecks for $99. I was wondering if this would be a good buy. All opinions are appreciated, thanks.

It seriously depends on the model. $99 is a good price for an Oreck, but how much will you use it? For a newer model, the ones that use CC bags, you can sell them later for a better price. I once found an Oreck at a Goodwill at sold it for $140 on eBay.

There are many people who HATE Orecks, but I like them. Its the same with Dysons and Bissells. If you don't have one, then one would be a good addition to your collection.

I think a brand new base model Oreck should be sold for no more then 99 dollars, not the 299 dollar price tag I saw on one at a local hardware store this afternoon. Or even 199 for the base model XL listed on there website. I won't even consider buying one brand new at the prices they charge for them. I'd buy a used one if it smacked me in the face and turned out to be a good value. IMHO

Oreck XL-21

If you want a used good Oreck, ask your Clean Home Center how much they would sell you a used XL-21 for? Most people have a love it or hate it attitude about the Oreck. The XL-21 blows any other model out of the water! It is their quietest, most powerful upright, still weighing in at 9 lbs. I'm sure it'll be more than $99., but if they're willing to sell you a good used one for under $200., go for it! If not, keep your eyes peeled on eBay....

i bought one- $40

I called the oreck place and asked them about their trade ins. I ran over there and they had one sitting out for me. It wasnt the tan and brown one, it was grey. It didnt say "xl 21" or anything on it, it just said "XL". Its plain grey, says ORECK across the bag, and the bag is nice and square. It seems like a fairley good vacuum, it grooms the carpet well. Could someone help identify age and model? Ill post pics when i get the time to take them.
Thanks, VW

Pics of my new oreck!

It turns out to be an XL2600. Sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures; i had to use my video camera as my regular camera is out of commision.

Poor Oreck---Lets see-"how to wet clean your Oreck upright!"
Now--You can use your Oreck vacuum as a water pump in two easy lessons-"JUNIOR!" Stop that!Drink your milk and quit blowing bubbles"And just that-how to convert your Oreck vacuum to a bubble machine.
Lastly-locked rotor motor tests on the Oreck motor!!!

Overall a good vacuum....simple and easy to use and work on. Nice job on short to med pile carpet, but the xl-21 is a little better than the standard xl series.just a little pricey when new.

I got it for $40 bucks which isnt bad... I guess some people just dont like orecks. I used to hate them but now theyre my favorite modern brand.

The 2600 was a very good model, one of my favorite standard Orecks. As long as you keep a good brushroll and belt on it, it will perform well, but I guess that's true with any vacuum really. I always tell my customers that the brushroll does 80% of the work, and the suction does the rest. You got a great deal as long as it's got a decent brushroll and the bag is in good condition.

@ Rick

I think it was a very good deal... It was originally $50 but i worked the salesman into $40. The brushroll is in overall good condition and the bag has no tears.
