Another vac to add to the collection, well, briefly, I just bought it for parts for my Sanitaire ZC-880, specifically the motor...

What am I talking about? Well, it's an Electrolux C12 "Professional" of course, the "pre-Sanitaire" for us brits, it's in tatty looking condition, the hood's all scuffed up and rusting, I don't entirely know it's working condition, but apparently may just need a new belt to get it running, but like I say it's just a parts harvest for me to get my ZC-880 running again (seeing how it donated it's motor to the S663)...

And at 99p I feel like I'm stealing it from the seller!!! :S

Sanitaires and the C12/16s are hard to find here, I got lucky with that one, I've been outbid so many times on them, or they've shot up in price to the point where I couldn't bid due to lack of funds.... :S

But, you *could* be in luck with an NIB C12, or at least C2112, if you have the money, there's a guy with both the C12 and a similar blue "Kent" model on ebay (see link below), but they want minimum of £150 a piece, but they are brand new old stock!!!

I personally don't do shipping, but I'm sure there are members here who could accommodate shipping from the UK...

I have a guy in manchester who could collect from yu and ship to me , he ships stuff weekly to me ( dyson spares for UK model dysons that people have brought back from thier stay over thier) .

At 11 Rand to the pound new is a bit pricy but we will see how this month goes.

Well, the seller has got an offer to post the vac(s) to whoever asks them to do so, so if you got your guy in Manchester to buy it, have it posted to themselves, then they could ship it straight out to you (with an order of Dyson parts too maybe to save money), saves having more than one middleman...

And to think, it would have cost me £15 for a courier, rather than £10.30 for a train ticket...

Yea My sister stayed in the UK for 10 years you guys like public transport and walking, In SA if its more than 2 mteres away you take your car.

Well, I haven't got a driving licence yet, plus I can't afford to buy a car, insure it, tax it, maintain it and fuel it, so it's either public transport or walking, but, it means I don't have to concentrate on driving or anything, and not to mention, £10.30 for 4 Chauffeurs, can't be sniffed at (just don't sniff while in the train toilets though, yeugh!!!), plus walking is great for keeping me fit, even if I'm carrying "extra padding"...

I like taking train journeys though, just sitting watching some of the nice countryside views go by, aswell as seeing all the engineering that goes into making railways work, it's something I enjoy...

It's a darn shame that our Government leaders will not and do not find the money to keep a decent train system going in the US. If you don't have a car here, you
either walking or maybe on a bus. Since flying has totally gone over the top !!

Well, the US government is run by the car industry bigwigs, so naturally they're averse to implementing reliable mass transit as it'll affect the sales of cars, while the British system may be constantly ridiculed for it's lateness, it is considerably better than what the US currently has in place, even in this small town, we get hourly trains which give access to the whole rail network, the line here may have been cut short in the 60's, but, it still works and carries many commuters and travellers every day...

And although it is getting more and more expensive to use as the months go by, it still remains cheaper than a car, it would just be nice if they'd invest in some new trains for the commuter lines like ours, the old Class 142 "Pacers" are getting pretty old now, pretty much as old as me, and there are plenty of serious safety concerns about them after the few that have been involved in collisions, but, we shall see...

Well, to say it was working was a bit of a misnomer, bearings dry, bag clogged & the plastic bits falling off, the motor caked in dust and the VGII brushroll is bent in the middle, but, I can't complain for the price!!!

The seller's sister & mother were there (not expecting me apparently, but there you go!!), and they were great people, and the mother there had a Kirby that she'd had for 18 years, and of course the people that come to service it ALWAYS try and sell her a new one, but she won't budge, good on her I say!!! It was infact the sister of the seller's vac, and I was talking about how great Eurekas & Sanitaires (and C12s!!) are, and she started regretting selling it cos she knew that it was a superb vacuum, but, given it's condition, I think it would have ended up conking out and being replaced, but, I reassured her that it was going to a good home with someone who'll care for it and give it the attention it needed, so I think that made her feel better

Anyway, back to the C12, I've stripped & cleaned the motor out, repacked the bearings as best I can (it'll need new ones) & replaced the fan, but it runs, just need to get on with cleaning the base, not sure what I'll do with the hood for the moment, but I think that may be a respray job when the time comes, needs de-rusting first though... :S

Bag's also washed, but I may attempt to convert it to use disposable bags somehow, Kirby shakeout bags I can work quite well, but these Eureka type ones, erm, it's too fiddly!!!

Didn't get any before pics, cos I'm in a bit of a sour mood (family things), but I'll try to get after pics when I'm done...

Just needs a little bit of a resto and it will look like new!

Yeah, got the base plastics and the hood in the dishwasher, so they should be mice and clean soon, and the motor's nice and clean now (not putting THAT in the dishwasher!! Talk about a stupid way to kill a motor!!!), the handle just needs a wipe (good ol' Chrome plating!!), the cable, well, I could get a scouring pad and try to clean it, or I could borrow a cable from the ZC-880 (even if it is the US style one that came off the S663), but it's working and undamaged, so might aswell give it the cleaning treatment just to see if it works...

Bag's drying out on a radiator towel rack, need to figure out how to get the adaptor back on cos I snapped the metal retainer thing off trying to get the thing off the bag for washing, might just be the old friend, zip-ties, to the rescue, thogh I still want to figure out if I can fit it with a bag system (probably using Kirby bags, seeing how I have plenty of those), but we shall see...

I'm not entirely sure about the hood though, it looked like it's been rusting for a long time, so, might not come out too healthy looking with a respray, but again, we shall see...

Well, that's 90% of the parts cleaned up, just need to do some of the smaller plastics that I didn't want to put in the dishwasher, and I'll get onto rebuilding the thing...

I think I may need one of them magic eraser things for the base & bumper, cos they have a few paint scuffs still attached, but the hood is still a sticking point, I think I may have to "upgrade" the C12 with a chromed Sanitaire hood with Headlight & a Sanitaire style footswitch (as opposed to the European style footswitch, which sucks)... :&#92

The motor's got a new seal, well, a bead of white silicone at least, just need to let that set and then the motor will be installed in it's place and tested properly...

The brusroll axle was perfect, bearings (ball no less) are fine, it was just the tube that was bent out of shape, so I swapped that with the one that came out of my Eureka PN when I upgraded that to a VGIII, and added some VGIII brush strips too, cos they're great...

Must get on with the rest of the thing now...

Well, it's all cleaned and back together, had a few issues when rewiring it (First time, ran the live and neutral through the switch and blew a fuse, 2nd time I didn't wire the switch in, and lastly the condenser wire came out of it's terminal due to a weak crimp!!!), but got all that fixed up and working like a charm, it just still looks like a dog...

And I did get a Before picture of the motor, just not an After, cos I forgot on both occasions!!! The pics were taken on my phone so they're not that great, really should charge up the batteries for that camera of mine!!!

Anyway, giving it a good test here in the living room, it's working perfectly, I never doubted it for a second, these machines are just too tough to kill off, even if they look like something dragged off the titanic, they'd still outperform the crap sold today off the shelves...

Now, I need to sort out the bag, it has some small holes in it, and holes mean leaks, soooooo, I need to find a Kirby filltube and see about adapting it to take Kirby bags....
