Italian Industrial Floor Care Company called Eureka

Just discovered an Italian company named Eureka that produces ride-along industrial floor sweepers. Even the brandname and font look almost identical to the Bloomington Illinois company’s branding!!! Here is the link:

Their escalator sweeper-scrubber is kind of interesting.

Intersting how they have a escalator scrubber for the risers and a completely different one for the treads. I also found it interesting having a wet and dry vacuum attached to the back.

Well, that certainly is a interesting company! I am surprised with how similar the logo is that Electrolux AB didn't try to force them to change their name or sue them for copyright infringement.

I also never understood why Figgie International, Interstate Engineering's parent firm from 1977-1996, allowed a civil engineering company in North Dakota appropriate the Interstate Engineering name and aspects of their logo. Their website says the company was formed in 1976 but if you call them and ask they claim to know absolutely nothing about the Interstate Engineering we all know and love and claim not to be an offshoot or branch of the aircraft and vacuum company by the same name.

And now there is a cheap bagless plasticrap vacuum being sold with the Tristar brand name but Aerus remains silent ..........

Not so different from Hoover and Eureka 50 - 60 years ago.

Sales numbers mainly but every model, every feature were competitive. Hoover was usually a bit ahead though. It was one of those epic industrial competitions. And Kenmore and Electrolux were always right there nipping at their heels for sales though both had some technical advances over Hoover and Eureka.

I was laying in a surgery center a year ago being prepped for a cortisone injection in my spine to try to relieve some back pain. They were playing some radio station or maybe it was Sirius and there was this long informercial for Shark. The breathless announcer was talking about Shark "innovations" like dirt finders and other things and it was probably spiking my blood pressure because nothing the Shark advert mentioned was really new. It was all things that were being made decades ago by Hoover, Electrolux of Sweden, Panasonic and probably every Japanese vacuum manufacturer.

No surgery, just a needle in the spine. I chose to go with mild sedation. When the docs ask if I am allergic to anything I always say yes, I'm allergic to pain : /

I came across an interesting design sold through Nacecare which had a manually powered vacuum system, after doing some searching I found another manual powered vacuum design. It's a neat concept and while I'm sure the vacuum system isn't too great it's mostly just there for dust control.

Karcher sells one like that for sweeping leaves outside and in parking lots. Imagine being a school groundskeeper and using that to quietly clean up leaves.

I came across an interesting design sold through Nacecare which had a manually powered vacuum system, after doing some searching I found another manual powered vacuum design. It's a neat concept and while I'm sure the vacuum system isn't too great it's mostly just there for dust control.

Looks like they are not available in the US unless someone is re-branding them for US sale. This or something a lot like it would be ideal for keeping ahead of the desert dust on our patios, sidewalk and driveway.

Home Depot sells the Karcher S4 Twin Push sweeper for $125.

There's been quite a few out there. at work we have a machine similar to this It's a strange thing. It's battery powered and It's brush spins backwards and the bin is on the back so things to travel up and over the brush to reach the bin. I did like our old one better which had a front mounted bin and swept things up a ramp into the bin. Both of them also have a suction motor which aren't super powerful but again more of a dust control type of thing. This one's filter is in the main bin area where the old one had a separate bin on the back housing the filter and a tray for finer debris. I'd be curious to try one of the manual suction motor models like the Eureka or the NC4 just to see what they're like.

The manual sweepers don't use suction. They are a glorified broom and dust pan, like an old Bissell carpet sweeper or Oreck Hokey but larger.

I will probably end up with a Karcher S6. Seems to be sturdier than the S4 and twice the bin capacity.
Although the Powr-Flite PS320 looks pretty good too with dual main brushes and a huge dust bin.

That isn't really creating a vacuum to lift dirt. That is there to pull dust into a filter.
