Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about these canister models, I've seen them mentioned but finding anything about how good they are is a bit more difficult. Has anyone heard of the patriot vacuum? Apparently it's a very good expensive vacuum, found some youtube videos showing it, motor has a good sound, I'm guessing it's a two stage motor. I also read that this vacuum is related to the tristar vacuums. What about the nss m1, I know it's nick named the pig, I know it's a commercial canister, quite expensive, is it worth the price? And finally, the Windsor treck vac, there are two models of that, I'm assuming the Treck Vac 3 is the better of the two. Just was wondering if these vacuums would be worth considering for the collection.

I've owned a patriot and a pig.
The patriot is a nice system but i just prefer the look of the tristar cxl. It is a little more powerful than a cxl, uses a dual stage as you guessed, the bags are a little different but you can get away with using tristar bags in them, they also use a large post motor filter which is supposed to last a few years before it needs replacement. The one i had came with a Sebo ET-C power nozzle which wasn't a very good cleaning nozzle, they currently come with a wessel werks nozzle which would be a vast improvement.
The M-1 is a heavier machine and has a lot of airflow to it. It's got a very interesting set up since it's a direct air canister. I think i paid like 130 for one from ebay, which didn't have it's bag hanger. I used to attach it to a Kirby using a 2" shop vac hose that made for one heck of a deep cleaner. I wouldn't pay the price for a brand new one but eh it's a pretty cool machine.

Blackheart, the Patriot vacuum USED to have a double stage Ametek motor. However, last year, that changed. They are now using a single stage motor they refer to as the "A.R.C Engine". Plus there is also a LCD screen on the vacuum now, presumably for speed control & diagnostic systems of some sort. If I was looking to buy a Patriot vacuum now, I would buy a good used or refurbished one with the double stage motor on Ebay, they do pop up occasionally there, & I wouldn't care for the new fancy features.

It seems most manufacturers are phasing out two stage motors which is unfortunate. A two stage motor does not have to spin as fast to get the same performance, therefore the motor will probably last longer. That's why so many vacuums now have that high pitch sound, it's one stage and therefore has to spin much faster to get the same results. I'm not sure if manufacturers are just trying to cut costs, it would seem that a two stage motor offers nothing but advantages. I know for sure that only two of the canisters I have use a two stage motor, the Perfect Canister and the Metro Vac canister. I'm not sure about the Aerus classic 90th anniversary canister, if anyone knows for sure on that one, I would love to know. I know Aerus-electrolux used to use two stage motors, if I had to guess by the sound, I would say that it's one stage. Vacuums such as the embassador 3 had a better sound to them.

That's a shame! I didn't know they had changed the motors but man i wouldn't want one with a single stage. When i had a Tristar MG2 i swapped it's single stage vm3 motor out for a dual stage motor from the older EXL because it had 3x the flow of the vm3.

Looks like the Patriot vacuum is sold through in home demonstration, you can't buy them new on line. I think this sales method's days are numbered, with the availability of the internet, many people don't want to purchase through in home demonstration anymore, also I know that many people don't trust those kind of sales people. Of course, that doesn't mean that everyone who sells this way is dishonest, but the dishonest ones have definitely hurt the in home selling industry. Before I got my Lindhaus HF6, I saw a youtube video of it and it sounded like a two stage motor. When I got mine, I could tell by the sound that it was one stage.

I have a Patriot vacuum-sold to me DTD.Its an excelllent machine-works like a TriStar-but more powerful.
The NSS M1 "Pig" is a commercial direct air canister-sold thru NSS dealers-typically commercial cleaning-janitorial supply.I own 4 of these machine and LOVE them-they are worth the price.these are one of the only vacuums that can last for half century and still be going strong!One of my "Pigs" is 40 yrs old-first one I bought from the Daycon janitorial supply company in Wash DC.My Pig was delivored to me from their delivory truck.There were several others on the truck-asked where they were going-the delivoryman said to the WHITE HOUSE!!!The Pig can be used with a wide variety of tools-including a powernozzle.One model of M1 has a pigtail plug on it for a powernozzle.They are truely great machines-would suggest them esp for commerical use!Best there is for canisters for that work.You can use the bag on the machine as a dump bag or with disposable bags.Currently use Shop Vac 14 Gal Filtrete bags.Have to modify them slightly to fit the NSS bag horn.These are an excellent alternative to a backpack machine.And the NSS can be more versatile.

The first time I saw a NSS Pig
The greeter lady at Wal-Mart was vacuuming the entry way.
It reminded me of Burke water pump with a bag. Talk about heavy duty looking.

I watched a janiter vacumming the entranceway to a bank with one-and movie theater users like Pigs-was even advertised in cinema trade magazines.I tried one a the janitor supply place(Daycon) in Wash DC in the mid 70's and was HOOKED-Got my own after ordering one for the radio station I worked at.Now I really like those machines.Would like to get the Pacific Steamex version and there was another out there before NSS cracked down on the companies building the "look-a-likes"Kinda like with Kirby and Bison.
