Info on Self-Propelled Eureka Upright

Hello Everyone...

I can't figure out how to take this machine apart. It is a very nice Eureka 5071B with the self propelled feature. It has the standard two handle bolts, one in the middle of the handle and the other where the handle goes into the base.

The bolts come out easily but there is not enough slack in the wiring to remove either piece. It moves an inch or so but not enough for one piece to clear the other.

I would like to be able to sell and ship this machine, but need to be able to take it apart.

What am I missing?

Aside for the problem I am having this is a neat machine. I am thinking the 70s due to the shag setting. Look at this great outer bag.

Mark,

I think you have to take the upper handle apart (the handle grip) and detach the power drive cable. You would also have to detach it from the bottom of the machine as well.

This is a fairly easy task to take apart, but if your are selling it...putting it back together could be an issue...

Perhaps there are other that can give better instructions. I have repair only one machine in which the cable broken. This was for Stephen Neal...and I think it is working OK now.

How much are

you asking for it ? Most people just put it in a tall box to ship these it is hard to take apart and might not go back together once apart.

There are a couple of screws on the handle. But I am concerned about re-assembly. Shipping it in a tall box is going to increase the shipping cost by quite a bit.

Yeah, Morgan is right.  I would recommend shipping it in one piece.  Just like a Self Propelled Hoover Concept.  Gotta stay together.

Back in the Day (1979/80)

The first Eureka Self prolled were into'd in Fed. 1979 at the General Convention in
New Orleans. Everyone has heard my story about that being my first week with Eureka as a Sales Rep. Before I opened my Vac shop in 1983.
These upright Vacuums were shipping in one piece, with the Handles complelely
in tack. They just did not break down, meaning unless the handles being taken
apart for a repair issue.
Just so you know what the Orginal packagaing intentions were. The handle was
actually surronded with cardboard.
