I finally thought I had found a good buy on a Canadian Lux, and I would have if the stupid seller had packed it correctly! It came today, and would have been very nice, except it has a huge, un repairable dent in it, please be very careful if you buy ANYTHING from 123yehle on e bay, here are the pics, im not going to try to send it back, ive lost enough money as it is, and it is worth keeping for parts.

I know!

This happened in shipping, because the e bay pics clearly show each side, it WAS perfect!

I am just!

Sick! I have wanted one of these for a long time, now all I am is out of some money, Maybe I can find another machine, im going to keep it for parts since they are so rare, but you can bet the seller is going to get the WORST rating possible.

I sent!

The seller a note, it takes a lot raise the wrath of Hans, but believe me it is at the boiling point!!And they surely know it!

NO!

Hans, that is a terrible shame. The machine looked so minty. I know there will be one out there for you in the future.

Since it already is damaged, maybe you can gut it out and attempt to knock the dent back out. I have seen work like that done at the local vacuum shop. Takes a lot of care and patients, but can reveal great results.

The best of luck to you

What a shame!

I can imagine your feelings of disappointment and anger must be really intense.  What was the seller thinking...no bubblewrap, no foam, only some useless bits of cardboard for packing material?  It's a travesty to see something so beautiful damaged like that due to sheer neglect.

body filler

I have repaired dents in that same spot on model G's.by tapping out the dent and filling it with body filler then sanding it smooth. You will need to go to a auto body paint supplier to get the matching paint but I think your machine is very repairable. You may also want to rebuild the motor since you will have it all apart then your machine will be fully restored. You can also take the body to a auto dent repair place where they can use a suction cup device to pull out that dent.

Hope this was a help!

I Just!

Recieved a message from the seller saying how he packed the box full of newspaper, funny, the newspaper termites must have ate it all in transit, if that is good packing, I would hate to see bad, be assured, he will get the worst rating I can give!!

Hans,

Sorry to see the damage you recieved.

By any chance was the package insured? If so I'd contact the shipping company to get your money due to their poor handling, though the seller is partially at fault for the bad packaging

Hey Hans! So sorry to see that pretty Lux damaged. Don't give up hope though, I bet that between several of us vac folks we can at least get it looking better. When we do, you can get a copy of the original instruction book that's with mine if you don't have one. BTW, did the deal go through on your Apex Dyno? Later, Trg

Paypal

Hi, if you bought it through ebay, then Paypal can file a claim for you, and more than likely you will be reimbursed (including shipping). Please don't hesitate, as I have gone through this a few times as many people don't know how to pack. I think you will win the case. However, a bit of advice don't continue to contact the seller, and let Paypal handle it. Ron

Im just!

Through!! I will chalk this one up to experience, there are a lot of good parts , all the attachments etc, so it will go on a shelf till I can find a better body, everything else is ok, but I will be very careful never to bid on anything this person has in the future, maybe one of these days!!!!

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #993300;">Ohhhhh Hans, "I feel your pain." That's why, whenever I buy a vacuum on ebay (not that I buy much of anything anymore) I =always= send the seller the following:</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #993300;">=====================</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Hello, I am the winning bidder of your "Brand-name" vacuum cleaner auction on eBay.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">I have been a member of eBay for over 12 years. I have learned the hard way not to assume that all sellers know how to properly pack and ship the items they've sold. I have shed many a tear upon getting stuff from UPS with ruined contents because I assumed the other party knew how to be a "safe packer."</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">So I've prepared the following packing instructions and ask you to please follow them to the letter.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">If you follow my instructions and the item arrives in undamaged condition (as it most probably will), you may be sure I will leave you rave-review feedback. If you choose not to follow my instructions and the item arrives damaged, my feedback will reflect my dissatisfaction.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">MATERIALS NEEDED</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">First, go to your local Mailboxes Etc. type of shipping place to get packing supplies. Don't go to Staples or Office Depot -- they charge a lot more for this stuff than shipping places do. Here is what you will need. [I will be glad to reimburse you for these costs. I'd rather do that than to shed more tears over another vintage vacuum cleaner that got ruined in shipment.]</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">       (a) Get a nice, sturdy, NEW carton approximately xx" by xx" by xx". [Size will depend on the type of vacuum cleaner being shipped.]. Please don't use an old, ratty, worn-out box. It will not stand up to the rigors of shipping. [If applicable:] DO NOT send the machine just in its original carton!!! It MUST be placed inside an outer, sturdy carton.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">       (b) About 12 ft. of bubble wrap (around $10)</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">       (c) About two bushel baskets' worth of styro peanuts (around $10)</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">       (d) A roll of brown packaging tape, about $3</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">       Please do NOT use crumpled up newspaper, chunks of styrofoam from your new TV, kitty litter, empty plastic soda bottles, old clothes, etc., for packing the machine!!! UPS does not treat large heavy packages very well, and the only way to ensure safe arrival is to pack carefully in a large sturdy carton with the proper kind of materials. As I said, I'll be happy to reimburse you for the costs.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">The details here vary depending on the type of vacuum cleaner. </span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">If it's an upright I tell them how to remove the handle and, if it's a Kirby, how to break the handle down. I tell them to please not try to remove the bag because it might be brittle and tear easily, but to dump out the dirt if there's a lot of it in there.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">If it's a canister, I ask them to throw out the paper bag (or, if it's a cloth bag, to remove it from the canister and seal it in a plastic bag) -- to prevent a mess.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">PACKING</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Wrap the motor unit with 2-3 turns of bubble wrap and tape the bubble wrap securely in place. Make sure the front edges of the motor unit, the wheels, etc., are especially well protected. The wheels are made of hardened rubber and are VERY fragile, so they need to be well protected. Make sure not to get any tape on the vacuum cleaner itself.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">[If applicable:] Also wrap the woven hose with bubble wrap, paying careful attention to the metal ends. If the hose gets squashed in shipment, it will be ruined forever.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Dump about a 3" layer of styro peanuts into the bottom of the shipping carton. DPlace the motor unit into the box, centering it in the middle.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Then place the [bag, handle parts, attachments -- depending on the type of machine] around the motor. [Place the hose in last, on top of the other items.]</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Dump more peanuts down into the box, lightly jiggling the box to help the peanuts settle all around the contents. Pour enough peanuts into the box so that they are up to the very top of the box and bulging out so that when you press down on the flaps, the peanuts will be pressed together and "seal" the machine in place. IMPORTANT: Do not "scrimp" on the peanuts -- if you don't use enough to make a tight bond all around the contents, you may as well not use any at all. The idea is to compress the peanuts so they hold everything tightly in place.</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">Insert a packing slip INSIDE the box as well as on the outside, in case the outer labels or marking come off. Seal the flaps of the box with proper packaging tape, pressing down tightly against the styro peanuts inside, and you're ready to go!</span>

<span style="font-family: trebuchet ms,geneva; font-size: medium; color: #000080; background-color: #ffffff;">THANK YOU VERY MUCH I look forward to receiving the vacuum cleaner in the same condition as shown in your listing! :)</span>

You know, an experienced PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) guy may be able to get that out (though the old paint may be a challenge - or is that enameled?). Those old Luxes are made out of steel, correct?

Disassemble the cleaner, and pick up your yellow pages and see if you can find someone who's willing to give it a shot. PDR guys work on cars exclusively, but I'm sure you'd be able to find one who's willing to take on a challenge.

Worst case scenario is that you get the dent out and have to repaint.
