If you could choose any upright in the world.....

Just because....

I took my Kirby G6 on a tour through the house tonight, I might as well go for a new Kirby Avalir like Alex said! In fact, I just spoke to our local Kirby dealer today and I'm supposed to be notified as soon as the Avalir lands! Funny thing is, he seemed genuinely shocked that I even knew about that model!

I recently decided to buy an upright. After reading lots of posts and talking to Tom I decided on the Maytag M1200. I've been thrilled with its cleaning ability and convenience. The cleaning lady likes it too. Thanks Tom!

It'd be hard to choose anything other than the Radiance Premium, if I had to choose only one I'd have to go with the best cleaning one I have. You'd never get me to give up the rest of my uprights though!

Riccar's look gorgeous. Are they good vacuums? The certainly look it.

The bags on them look good, they look quality made, Made in the US I gather, they look nice, just look like a good vacuum.

They look awesome! I would love to own one. I know one member on here has imported a Riccar Brilliance and loves it. Not sure I would import one but if they became available I would definitely be very interested. The Maytag M1200 is very similar but not as costly.

My relatives in St Louis have recently purchased the Brilliance I'm visiting them next month so I will get a chance to try it out. Looking foward to that :-)

Well the upside of my obsession is that she rarely needs to do any vacuuming :-)

But she likes something light as she finds the dyson and Felix a little heavy. But she is a weakling. She prefers the Miele S8

Well Oli and Marcus, here is a short video that will tell you all you ever wanted to know about the Riccar Radience vacuum:

Yes I take my hat off to Riccar it is fabulous. I don't like the HEPA filter sticking out though. They should change that on future models.

The Brilliance...

Hi Mark
I have one and believe me it is an AMAZING machine. If you are in the area you HAVE to go see Tom ( Dysonman1) at the museum. They also have a factory outlet store if you can't resist.
Personally I would go for the Maytag M1200- same as my Brilliance but with a longer hose. I believe it's quite a bit cheaper than the Riccar version as well- and it has a Cool Blue light on the logo;).
Mine runs fine off my 1.2kva Transformer........

The link is to the thread I posted when I got mine ;)

Quickly skimming this thread: Depends on choosing WHAT

Performance: Any G series Kirby
(While I personally like the G4 best, all others (5 and upwards) are too "roundish" in their design to me, G5 to Diamond being still somewhat ok, Sentria 1 and 2 going over the top = a plain "no" (look at dipping bow in the upper edge of the vinyl bumper, a "never" thing to me, added by this roundish belt-lifter crank).

Looks and feel:
Hoover Ranger series (any of them).
Drawback: The idle extra airflow around the connector (where the belt goes)
Another drawback: All Hoovers of that age have this dreadful hard-on-hard materials vibration thing (bearings, motors, plastic housings) (all Juniors, Seniors and Rangers have it)

Design AND looks and feel:
All Hoover Commercials (nice looks and colors, nice classical design)
Drawback: Only US, not available here.

Head and other lights:
Any Hoover hardbody with lights, especially the ones with back light height adjustment. Drawback: Horrible transfer of bearing vibration to outer body (see above).

Smoothness of operation (vibration free)
Volta 1970s upright with drop-in paperbags. Never seen any easier upright on that point.
Drawback: No lights, somewhat "everyday" design.

Upright cleaning while being easy on the eye and on the ears:
Any Lux 801 and up (Royal series and Intelligence).
Good lights, good looks, easy operation, a "pull" feeling, yet vibration is low.
Drawback: They aren't an upright but a canister.

Just my 2 ct.
Joe
