...This commercial.

I had to rewind it and watch it from the beginning (thank goodness for DVR).

Some fabulous (but quick) footage of old vacuums running!

((For the record, I don't think it's a design flaw that we've 'had to put up with' ...))

Enjoy!

Hehehe...

I just bought one of those this morning :D

I'm not often seduced by modernity, but I'd never seen the DC24 before, I didn't realise it was so small and cute!

ha ha

thats too funny I loved that commercial too. I want the little yellow one the woman was using with the white front bag. Reminds me of the early orecks. I remember when I was a kid in daycare I would secretly swap out the vacuum my teacher was using on the play ground to the old one. So I could watch it.

WoW!

The TRUTH comes out!! LoL!

I'm looking at this cleaner on Dyson's website...

LOOK at the motor amperage AND their explanation, err... disclaimer!!
Oh, how the pendulum swings!

The dirt cup doesn't look like it'll hold a whole lot.

The machine is quite cute. I may have to go play with one.

just TRY to get that ball under a dresser or low table or couch or under a bad. design flaw?

'just TRY to get that ball under a dresser or low table.

That's certainly true, but that critisism could be leveled at a lot of machines - try doing it with a Kirby, for instance! The only modern uprights I've used which fit under a low piece of furniture AND maintain close contact with the carpet are the Sebo X1 and Felix, and Vorwerk machines.

AND just think how dog hair is gonna stick to that plastic ball in the winter time when static electricity is at its worst... You know, with an electric motor inside of it...

Oh yes I saw this, was annoyed when it turned out to be Dyson.

Anyone know what the upright with the dark brown bag door is? I think it's a Hotpoint Swallow or something.

Fred and Jack

Fred, thanks for sharing that fun commercial. Hmmm... interesting how a person recognizes footage after a while. I'm sure I've seen bits and pieces from links on this site.

That's another great thing about this site and this club--more eyes to spot footage of vacuums (and other appliances) in commercials and shows that I would otherwise miss.

Jack, I love that Hoover. And, it appears to be MINT. Congrats.

Vacuum's in this advert

Yes Ian it's a Swallow. Also, someone mentioned the Oreck-looking thing? It's a McDonald Electric. I think these were Littlewood's budget vacuums.

McDonald Electric

Yes, that was the same cleaner badged in the U.S. as the Oreck CVR-4000 (later XL-4000). I have seen them in blue, black, and orange. Wonder if McDonald Electric made a yellow model for Oreck. Would sure love to add that to my collection. I too was disappointed to find out this was a commercial for Dyson.

Is It A Swallow!!!....????

have been rying to work out what they are???

My guess is:

Eureka
GE
Kenmore /Norca...is it a Hoover??
Norca / Hoover 26??
Is it a Hotpoint Swallow or a Mercedes/Linhaus thingy
McDonald by any other name
next to last a take on the New Miele
Floor head is a Morphy Richards Bojack

Intesting slant/ angle with this new campaign, non of the "No Loss Of Suction" " Never Needs Filters" etc..and no obvious link with Electrolux stuff..HHmmmmm...

Whats your vote??

Ok UK guys,,Is Dysons accent correct for his place of birth, formative years or is he plumming it up?

You don't start a business like that without a bit of cash in the coffers ;p

I couldn't say tbh.

Dame Fortune was certainly on his side when he won his case against BISSELL.....if it had gone the other way ??? and whatever Sir James & Lady Dyson are spending the money on it certainly is'nt clothes; i've seen them on a 'near bankruptcy to obscene riches' type programme and they were dressed like a walking rumage-sale !!

As to accent I think we can safely say its just your typical middle England middle class was of speaking !

Does anybody know who made the Macdonald or was it an independent set up ? I actually remember the TV advert @ 1973 featuring a popular character actress of the time called Valerie Lush ?

I think the Mcdonald came in yellow, red or orange ?
