I have a Dyson dc02!

I got it off Ebay for £1.20 as spares or repair, The kind man delivered it to my house for an extra fiver but it was worth it definately. It seems to me that this dyson has hardly been used, the suctiion is better then I expected, a bit more than the Ametek DC01, same as a YDK DC01 really. The dyson had kept on cutting out apparently, but the pre filter had some plaster fine dust on it. It has all tools and they are like brand new! no scratches or dirt in them. It has the oldest floor tool and i hope to get a de stijl or a clear version of this dc02 as its really funky

I am going to strip it down and clean it all up. It is a DC02 Standard btw.

You should post photos. Sounds like you got a great deal. I have been interested in the early Dyson models, and from what I hear the early DC02s are quite rare.

The DC02, is about the rarest of the Dyson models, as they were launched later than the DC01 and were not as popular. They were not available in the USA and they were quite quickly replaced by the DC05 which had better suction and sold better. To find them in good condition now is a bonus, as most appear on Ebay battered and scratched with tools missing, hoses taped up or failed motors. Dyson no longer support the DC01 or DC02 with spares, so this will accelerate their demise, as people just scrap them when they pack up - unable to get parts to fix them with.
The DC02 Clear was very rare and is now very collectable, as is the DC03 clear, as not many of these survive today, although the DC03 in general was a big seller due to its long product life and its lightweight design.

DC02 cleaners were very quick to switch off. Some consumers found this occurred even when using the crevice tool if it was used for long periods. Also the cut-outs are poor quality and with repeated activation could get weaker and weaker over time, to the point that on some DC07 cleaners which had been used with blocked cyclones, even after a new tank was fitted and no blockage present, some cut-outs would still activate after a while.

The floor tool used on the original DC02 was of very good quality, but was next to useless, especially when used on a DC02 as the suction was so low. The tool supplied with the Absolute and others was far better. The very worst floor tool was the Dyson designed tool used at the end of the production run. They were hopeless.

hi all
i have a few Dc02 heads, i have the original DeStijl head that came with the DC01 destijl too, and the Destijl dyson designed tool. i don't like it as they are a bit overpriced at £40. the original head(the first one i mentioned) is hard to push when used with a more powerful vacuum, due to the fact that it has poor airflow.
