WOW!!!One REALLY dirty air filter!!!!I vacuum the outer filters on my 'Lux units every week.Yes,gives an excuse to use the vacuum.The air purifier machines--the HVAC filters now last for MONTHS!!!By the way hows yours??I have also seen similar filter elements in Cat genset engine filters that bad-but the engine still worked!The filter element is ahead of the engine turbocharger.Amazing how much suction an exhaust powered turbocharger can generate!After all it is like a GIANT Kirby fan!The 3816 series Cat engine our genset at work has two large turbochargers with giant pleated air filters.Yes,like those in purifiers-just bigger.

I have this model ... see photo. I change the carbon pre-filter every three months per mfgr instructions. The inner HEPA filter is permanent and only needs to be vacuumed, which I do when I replace the carbon pre-filter.

I've never heard of a permanent filter for those Honeywell HEPA air cleaners. I have a Honeywell too, but its an older model. I usually change the HEPA filter once a year or so.

Interesting, it must be specific to certain model cleaners only.

Wow, guess if you don;t have an air filter that's what goes through your lungs.
I just got 2 used Austin Heealthmates a old Healthmate & a older 200HM Jr.
Bought the big one an allergy filter as the original Austtins had smaller filters & the other one came with a good allergy filter. Spent $70 for the 200 & bought the other for $45 but the filter cost almost $200 with a discount. So over $300 to help clean the air but I guess its worth it & those filters can last up to 5 years but you do have to vac that prefilter...Goodness this is a vac forum...use it....LOL
I'm on chemo now & was getting a bad cold & coughs so I figured I better filter the air.
