Today I bought an early Kirby Tradition with a metal fan and headlight safety switch for $20. It's in bad shape but won't be any trouble to clean up. Unfortunately, there is the replacement safety switch installed. However, all of the hardware for the headlight switch is still in place. Hopefully sometime I can work the wiring back to that original switch. Is that possible? Anyway, I haven't turned it on yet but the fan shaft spins freely and there is no wiggle so I expect it to run decently. I hope it wasn't too bad of a buy.

Lane,

Most of the parts unique to the safety switch that was originally installed on this machine back in 1979 are NLA; that design was troublesome to many customers at the time, and prompted Kirby to issue a service bulletin to its dealers to modify the Tradition back to the safety switch which was located below the intake opening of the fan case. You may want to just leave it with the Omega safety switch because that one was better.
