I can't put my finger on it but this new site design has me feeling confused or disoriented.

While the look is nice, I just feel stupid like something is missing or wrong.

I joined this site in Jan 2013 and feel like I'll be locked out of other areas of the forum.

Not only do non paying members have to deal with adds but we won't be able to participate in the whole site. That's not nice.

Now George, that's not fair to me. While I've made many changes to automaticwasher.org over the years, anytime there has been a major change, I've received an email from you that you are not happy about it. This has happened at least three times now telling me how you don't like the changes I made, how the site was "perfect" before I made those change and how it is "ruined" now.

The internet is constantly changing, it's not good for a site to stagnate. Vacuumland had been suffering from stagnation for quite some time and it needed these changes to breath new life into it. I hope this will be the start of something really good for the Vacuum Community. Through many many many hours of hard work and dedication I've given the washing machine community a place to be safe and meet other who share their unusual passion. With this redesign of Vacuumland I hope to do the same for the wonderful members of the Vacuum Community.

Time will tell, but with as many great people as there are in this community it certainly is worth a shot.

Now I have to defend myself yet again...

@Gary (countryguy)...Please don't say it's ONLY $12 a year.
(unless you want to pay for my subscription) :)
You might as well say "It's only $25, $50 or $100" and on and on, when or where will it end...prices can only go up once you've established them.

I've lurked here for well over a year before I joined Jan. of this year...now it's becoming a pay site. Why now?
I'd rather it be a commercial site than a pay site. That way no one gets left out.

@unimatic1140...
Yes, I've not liked the changes you've made to Automaticwasher.org but at least it's all free and everyone can participate.

I thought this site (Vacuumland.org) and Automaticwasher.org are two totally separate entities.
But you are comparing what I said about another site on this site.

I'm trying really hard NOT to sound ungrateful, as I am grateful for your time/effort/work.

Why would one be pay and the other free if they are basically the same, just the subject is different?

I myself know what it takes to run a web site as I run my own and make no money off of it.
It's just a hobby of mine and I do pay for it out of my own pocket and get over 3000 visitors a week.
I do change it (background and/or icons and/or add video or links etc.) on a weekly basis but the format is the same for over 12 years now.

By all means do what you want to YOUR site(s) but just know if I feel a little put off by having to pay to participate in select sections of this site then others might feel the same.

And I didn't say I didn't like the cosmetic changes (I actually do like the visual changes), I just said I feel a little lost or disoriented.
Maybe I'll get used to it.
I'm just now getting a little used to Automaticwasher.

I think the "Current Thread" (highlighted), Latest Posts & My Posts is an awesome added feature (I hope I don't have to pay for the privilege to use them.)

I'm not knocking you or your site, but I do want to start a conversation about the $.

Hi George, it clear to me then that you don't understand that Vacuumland is going to be run EXACTLY the same way as automaticwasher.org, no difference what so ever.

Now, first of all since when is automaticwasher.org free??? It is not, you are wrong about that. It costs $12 a year to join aw, you get upgraded features, access to As the Tub Turns and Dirty Laundry Forums and no advertising. Vacuumland is the same way, its will cost $12, you get upgraded features, access to Miscellanea and no advertising.

So now please explain to me where you see a difference between the two sites?

My Mistake

Sorry I didn't know you charged for certain threads of Automaticwasher.

I never used As the Tub Turns or Dirty Laundry.

I guess they are the same then.

No worries then George, I do appreciate the questions and I'm glad I was able to clear up any confusion. I do hope you'll stay on with us.

When the Vacuumland site was run by the VCCC it was NOT FREE.. Who do you think was paying for it, where did the money come from to store all those webpages and pay the web server providers? I was and so were about a hundred other people by sending them a check every year for $35 (7 years for me I believe so about $245 total) . You may have been using it "for free" but it was on my dime and the other supporting members that made it it available and "free" for you and yet you complain.

WTH...What Am I Complaining About?

@petek...
I'm NOT complaining. I'm not whining. I'm not doing anything but starting a conversation.

I WAS concerned about the little guy (not of age, etc.) that wants to participate in sections of this board but doesn't have the means to pay to use them, that's all.

Personally I just just starting to join in topics in other sections of this board that will be closed to me. It's no big deal, really, I just said "that's not nice". I wasn't bitching about it at all.

I don't know who the VCCC is as I started lurking the board just over a year ago.
It was FREE FOR ALL (I'm sure it wasn't for the person running it) but as far as I was concerned...everyone could sign up for free and share any aspect of this board without having to pay for their expressions.

In retrospect, it sounds like you're pissed your plunked down $245 of your own cash for all those years.
