Hyla has arrived

Rob, thank you for sharing with us.... you did a good job with the pictures. The one with the close up of the water splashing around is like art to me!

I think if they are a similar price to the Rainbow, most people would just get the Rainbow instead.... Now if it were less, it would be a different story.

What is the geuyser principle? I'm not familiar with that term. It is nice that the separator doesn't have to be cleaned. Does the power nozzle have a metal brushroll or a height adjust?

I don't like how the power switch is on the side of the machine.... I think you'd push the machine back when pressing the buttom.... probably better if it were on the top and easier to get to as well. I do like the hose handle though.... you're still "grabbing" the part where the the dirt goes through... I like to think of the dirt going through my hands :o) I don't like traditional loop styles, so that one really looks good to me. I wonder if they sell it with a longer hose as an option. I can see what you mean about that bare floor tool... looks a little clumsy.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the pictures and thoughts about the two... I've never seen a Hyla in person so I really appreciate that!

Hyla has arrived

Khoi,
I will post some pictures of both units.
Here is the new Rainbow Power Nozzle

It has LED lights, kind of a rough finish to hide scratches and a pad on each side of the nozzle for your foot. You can see the revolving side brush on each end.
You can also see the quick release pedal to release the electric wands.

Here is the underside of the Rainbow Power nozzle. Notice the revolving brush on the end. It really snatches up stuff along the baseboard and along the wall to wall carpet. Also notice the built in channels that direct the dirt into the suction steam.
Note also the RAINBOW brush is big in diameter and also has the break in the middle of the bottom plate. I think this might be what helps it to NOT suck the rug ends into the opening and cause the power nozzle to shut off.

Because the openings are smaller,it really concentrates the air flow and the finished path on the carpet looks very nice and leaves no tracks over the entire width of the nozzle. It really straightens the nap and makes it stand up. I can also verify I have used it on wool carpets, braided rugs and small throw rugs with no damage to the rug fibers (unlike some other modern bagless machines I have used)
I have also noticed the brush roll does not collect threads and hair that have to be cleaned off the brush.
I do not know but would guess ANYTHING from Rexiar is their own design
I use the power nozzle almost every day and am just ready to replace the first belt in almost a years use.

Hyla has arrived

Here is my Hyla power nozzle.
The Hyla is very nice too. It has a different finish and uses some type of non led
light. As you can see the Hyla power nozzle cannot be removed and used with the hose handle (for stairs). The cord runs outside the pipe and has to be plugged into the hose handle. The Hyla has a separate straight suction hose and wands for the tool use.

Here is the underside of the new Hyla.
As you can see the Hyla has a completely differnt brush roll. Smaller in diameter.
Notice there is no break on the bottom plate. I was thinking this might be why it has a tendency to jam and shut off when you come to edge of the lightweight rug.

Both nozzles are well made and both have a furniture guard all around. They both have covered wheels to protect the floor and both are very quiet as far as power nozzles go.

The Hyla has a cogged belt which should be of some advantage but I have never had belt trouble in the past with any of my Rainbows.

Here are the hose handles. The Rainbow has the slide off/on control that you can set for brush for (1) lock brush on (2) lock brush off (3) on when trigger pulled.
You cannot see it but the Rainbow hose handle also has a "slide" suction relief on the side of the handle in just right place to be used with your thumb. It has a metal hose end.

The Hyla has a nice handle and the small remote control clips on the hose handle. With the remote you can turn off the power nozzle or the main machine.
The Hyla also has a nice hose protector at each end of the hose.
The Hyla has a plastic hose end.

That is the Rainbow electric wand section at the bottom. If you can see the cord is enclosed along the tube. Something interesting in the design is that if you drop the wand, it is designed in such a way that the vinyl side hits the floor first thus protecting the floor's finish.

Here are the two electric hoses.
As you see the Hyla electric hose is shorter. Both do the job. In the Hyla, it looks like the electric cord runs inside the hose and with Rainbow it seems wrapped.

As you know, Rainbow has developed this new electric hose that is used with both my Aqamate and Rainbowjet. No need for 2 sets of hoses and wands.
At first I had to think about that concept. But I guess we use electric washers, dryers, dishwashers every day too.

No Rug Gard??
I like the shape of the Hyla's brush roll. Reminds me of Vibra-groomer, that channels the airflow to the intake, but NO RUG GARD. That could/would get irritating.

Hyla has arrived

Gary,
I know it looks strange but does it ever clean well. When you pull the cleaner in the backward stroke it cleanes the full width. Very diffferent in actual use.
It has the feel of using an older Hoover upright with the strong air flow and suction.

I really like the transparant nozzle set with the HYLA and the Natural Bristle brush for dusting.

I was thinking because the Hyla is sold all over the world and in some areas people do not have as much wall to wall carpet as we have, maybe that is the reason the electric hose is shorter. The straight suction hose is much longer.

Thanks for posting the great pictures, William. Both the Rainbow and Hyla GST look like quality units.

I'll have to look at my NST power nozzle, but I seem to recall that it has a center separator and that the brushroll is made of wood. They look similar otherwise, but the NST power nozzle is a dark green and not black. I have a feeling Hyla went with two different Weasel Werks power nozzles between the NST and GST.

No it's the same power nozzle between the NST and the new one but the early NST used a different power nozzle. They had a little wessel werk nozzle with a tiny brush roll. The newer black Fairfax used the same whimpy power nozzle.

p.s. It's good they changed the water pan latches.

Air clean mode

I was wondering if the Hyla moves air like the rainbow does in low/air clean mode? Since you have used both do you think one works better than the other? Thanks!

Hyla has arrived

Mike,
I can tell you the "low" air clean on the Rainbow is almost silent and since it has the brush less motor that is designed to run longer periods. What you hear with the RAINBOW is the water in the basin.
I think the Hyla's low speed is running at a much higher speed and you are to run it a shorter time.
I have enjoyed using both machines. I seem to prefer using the Rainbow in my house just because you only have one hose that is much longer ,one set of wands and new power nozzle works better on the types of rugs and carpets in my house.
The Rainbow is quieter and feels like it has more suction at the hose end but that is just my thoughts.
I have to say I was actually surprised at how much I like the Hyla. So far it seems to be built pretty good. My new Rainbow has been faultless and the new model has so many improvments over my old SE. As far as cleaning improvments, I would have to say the new power nozzle is the most important change.

Yes, the NST pn is the same as with the GST. No rug guard, wide plastic brushroll.

Is the GST black? The NST is a nice dark green.

Rob-

So the New GST isn't a brushless motor? I figured the very latest model of Hyla by now would be brushless.

I think it's cool how the "Geyser" technology shoots water into the separator to keep it clean - but you wonder how it does it since that water isn't going to be clean the more you vacuum. Here is a video Intro I found on the GST. All those extras at the end are mind blowing. I'm not sure what the PN and rollers are for at the 2:55 mark of the video.

So cool looking to see all of that turbulent water action. I like the way the bucket is shaped but I'll bet an entire gallon of water does ADD the weight to the machine.

About the short hose - didn't rainbow add length to its hose on the latest model? So wouldn't the Rainbow's previous to the Oynx have the same length electric hose?

The new GST is black. Maybe to be like the new Rainbow. I noticed Filter Queen has changed to black too.

Mark,
The electric hose on the Hyla seems shorter than even the old electric hose on my SE Rainbow but part may be to the hose protectors at each end of the Hyla hose.

New Hyla has arrived

Mark,
I don't know anything about the motor in the new Hyla. I asuume it is not a brush less motor based on both the sound of the Hyla motor and the fact that no where in the instruction book or the demo was anything said about continuous use for air cleaning. The air cleaning mode is much faster motor speed than the Rainbow.
The Hyla motor is very smooth sounding.

That Rainbow power nozzle looks so cool! Love to see something really innovative in the design of an attachment - so much effort goes into the design of the main vac units, when in truth, cleaning effectiveness can be greatly improved by creatively thinking "outside the box" when designing attachments (I know that is one thing Dyson does well). Even the new Kenmore canisters are trying some new takes on the bare floor brush. And Filter Queen and Shark are now offering bare floor tools that take Swiffer dusting clothes! Brilliant!

The idea of adding "floor polisher" vertical brushes on the corners of a power nozzle is brilliant. Instead of trying to get the suction over to the edges of the nozzle, the designers provided a way to move the dirt over to the suction area. Would be interesting to see if this actually works well in reality. Would love to see a video of a test of this Rainbow power nozzle against one of their older versions - using the same vacuum to keep all other factors identical....

Brain,
Take a look at the bottom of the nozzle. It concentrates the suction and the end brushes work well very close to chair and table legs and close to the wall.
Notice the air channels on the front of the base plate and the ends. It really grabs the dirt instead of just plowing things in front of the machine. Some other things I have noticed after almost 1 year of daily use:
(1) the balance is such that the power nozzle and wand do not fall over.
(2) the 9 led lights put out a very bright light.
(3) the brush does not have to be cleaned of threads and string as many brushes
(4) notice the narrow width between the brush and air channels which help create
strong air flow.
(5) pulls up the nap very nice but at the same time has created no damage to any
of my rugs or carpets.
(6) belt has lasted almost a year without problems
(7) air stream has not clogged one time in years use
(8) wrap around guard and rubber covered wheels to protect polished floors
(9) pushes very easy on thick carpets
(10)quiet motor
